COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY

The purpose of communications strategy is to keep our kapu informed and engaged in the marae. This strategic objective builds on the great mahi already established by the trustees and aims to strengthen and broaden the reach of communications with the hapu. Key considerations for this strategic goal include: •  Ensuring a clear plan is in place for ongoing comms •  Committing funding to ensure continuity of communications

with our hapu •  Ensuring there is capacity and capability to provide ongoing

EVENTS & ENGAGEMENT

KOMITI

The purpose of the komiti is to generate and implement ideas for events/ activities that will engage our hapu in the marae. It is suggested that this komiti focus on two initial events 1) an event to engage our rangatahi in the marae and 2) establishing a working bee programme to involve whanau in the maintenance and development of the marae. Key considerations for this strategic goal include: •  Ensuring rangatahi and rangatakapu are represented on the

komiti •  Supporting the komiti to secure and raise funding •  Ensuring events align with other strategic objectives of the

marae

registers) to find and register people on the database •  Utilise existing online technologies to reduce the cost of

creating and maintaining the database •  Ensuring that the database is kept alive by communicating

Our key foci for a sustainable marae include: •  Continuing to build on the strong planning and development practises •  Ensuring we have a succession plan for trustees, committees & working

parties •  Ensuring we are building our capacity and capability to sustain and

develop our marae •  Ensuring we are in a strong financial position

This strategic objective builds on the great mahi already established by the trustees in terms of the completed wharenui upgrade, proposed kaumatua kainga and wharekai upgrade. Key considerations for this strategic goal include: •  Ensuring the plan provides long term direction so that

development can be strategically implemented •  Providing indicative timelines and costings •  Identifying projects that can be completed through working

bees and resources within the hapu •  How the built environment will encourage activity and use of

the marae •  Acquiring resources required to maintain the marae and

implement development initiatives •  Special projects that will improve use of the marae e.g.

regime •  Build on the existing mahi of the marae in accessing funding

by utilising the resources and relationships developed to secure longer term funding

•  Review rates for hireage/ catering etc particularly following the upgrades

•  Consider events and activities the marae could create to generate revenue

•  Ensure strong financial planning and systems are in place

CAPACITY, CAPABILITY AND

SUCCESSION DEVELOPMENT

The purpose of this strategic goal is to build the capacity, capability and succession of the marae to sustain development. In particular it focuses on ensuring we have strong systems and develop people to contribute to the marae’s development. Key considerations this strategic goal include: •  Identify people with skills that can contribute to the

development of the marae •  Develop a plan for ensuring people are trained up to become

trustees or project managers for the marae in the future •  Involving more rangatahi/ rangatakapu in the governance/

management of the marae •  Providing training for trustees and other key people working

for the marae
