E aaku Rau Rangatira maaNgaa Kai Haautu , Ngaa Kai Puumau I ngaa Taaonga Tapu o te iwi MaaoriTeenaa Koutou Katoa.

It was with absolute disappointment and pity for our people, when I read Te Raumoa Kawiti's criticism concerning Te Reo Takiwa o Ngatihine (item 14(c) refers) in the Runanga Minutes of 21st April 2007 at Matawaia. Considering the great technological advancement and the contemporary face of Maoridom, I would have expected someone of his vocal ability to have espoused the magnificent achievement of the owners of Te Reo Takiwa o Ngatihine (sic) in ensuring the continuation of the station.

That entity celebrated its 15th (?) year of operation recently, and that in itself demonstrates the determination and encouragement of its staff, leadership and listeners - I guess in essence, it evokes the spirit of Hine-a-maru!

With reference to Hine-A-Maru may I now remind Te Raumoa Kawiti that he was one of the original group of former Radio Station trustees that successfully collaborated with others to remove our Tupunas' name from the governance structure (Nga Uri o Hineamaru Incorporated Society) sometime between 1996 - 2002; whilst facing a rigorous legal dispute at that time with me; one that entered its sixth year before a confidential settlement occurred. He was further part of that same Board that disintegrated itself and willingly handed over Te Reo Takiwa o Ngatihine to todays' owners; our whanaunga at The Ngatihine Health Trust.

Page 4: Te Reo o Ngatihine

Te Raumoa Kawiti and the other nine "trustees" discarded the name "Hine-a-Maru" and ownership of Te Reo Takiwa o Ngatihine, without hesitation. There was no consultation with "iwi" and certainly no mandate from our people to exchange ownership. However that is now historical and we must move on; nevertheless these events should not be forgotten.Te Raumoa Kawiti, and any other critics of the existing station should not forget the historical lesson as well. What one has sown, now he reaps. To make sharp and critical comments against the Station and in particular to call into question, the current Manager, Mike Kake is a legacy of poor judgement.

I congratulate Mike Kake, his committed team and the owners of the Radio Station (The Ngatihine Health Trust) for the work it is doing In profiling Maoridom in todays' world.

Te Runanga o Ngatihine has an obligation as Licence holder to be seen to actively support and uphold the Radio Station. Te Raumoa Kawitis' comments are harmful and not likely to contribute to the wellness of our iwi. Its time to wake up and be pro-active as an iwi (or hapu).

To cry over spilt milk now is pitiful for anyone. Let's salute the Radio Station for what it is. Noho ora mai ra,Kara Paraone ShortlandAa Koutou MokopunaExtract taken from the Minutes of Te Runanga o Ngatihine (21/04/07) at Matawaia.

14 c) Te Reo Takiwa o Ngati Hine. A number of issues were raised by Te Raumoa including his disapproval of the new name of the station and poor programming. He asked that the Station manager Mike Kake be invited to a future hui to answer his queries.
