To commemorate the occasion, the A&N Administration has chalked out yearlong programmes in A&N Islands, to spread the message of Gandhian values and principles amongst the people here. To begin with, Kala Kendra-a Society under Department of Art & Culture, A&N Administration in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi, an autonomous body of Ministry of Culture, Government of India is organizing a 'Festival of Music, Dance, Drama, Puppetry and Folk & Tribal Art' at Ambedkar Auditorium, Port Blair from tomorrow (Oct 2) to 4, 2018. The programme will be inaugurated by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Shri Chetan B Sanghi at 6.30 pm. Artistes from Mumbai, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and New Delhi will be performing in the festival. Port Blair, Oct 1 The Pollution Response Team (A&N) of the Indian Coast Guard conducted an Oil Pollution Preparedness Response and Co- operation Convention Level-I Course for the first responders here recently. The course was structured to impart training on preparedness and response technique as a first respondent against any marine oil pollution scenario. In addition to 29 Indian Coast Guard conducts pollution response training personnel of the Indian Coast Guard, 7 Officers from various stake holders including Departments of Environment & Forest, Police Marine Force and IOCL participated in the course. All participants were exposed to various theoretical aspects of oil properties, behavior, fate and response techniques for containment and recovery. Participants were Intnl. The Vice President presented the 'Vayoshresta Samman' awards to several eminent senior citizens, including the noted Cardiaologist Dr. P Venugopal. Shri Naidu said the recognition of their Vice President calls for promoting joint family system in country outstanding achievements in the form of the national awards would motivate them to continue their good efforts. It would also be an encouragement to others to emulate their example. Shri Naidu underlined the need for conducting an official survey to find the population of elderly people and making use of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's 'Ayushman Bharat' health scheme. He said the government has launched several welfare schemes for providing comprehensive healthcare and economic independence to the senior citizens. Shri Naidu said India had an elderly population of 10.38 crore according to 2011 Census and this constituted about 8.6 per cent of the total population. Presiding over the function, attended by hundreds of elderly people, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot gave an account of welfare programmes undertaken by his Ministry for the elderly people. After Asia Cup success, Indian

opening pair Rohit Sharma

and Shikhar Dhawan made

significant gains in the latest ICC

ODI rankings released on

Sunday. Sharma, who led

India to the 7th Asia Cup title, in

the absence of Virat Kohli,

jumped up two spots to reach

his career-best 2nd position.

With the rise, the top two slots

are now both filled by Indian

batsmen, with Kohli still filling up

the top spot. It is for the second

time that Sharma, who scored

317 runs in 5 innings at an

average of 105.67 in the Asia

Cup, has reached the 2nd

place as he did so back in July

this year.

Dhawan, who was awarded

The Board of Directors and Staff of the Consumer Co-operative Stores Ltd. (CCS Ltd.) deeply mourn the sad and untimely demise of Shri Starvin Jose, an employee of this institution, who died on 30th September, 2018 at Port Blair. He joined in the service of the Society on 01.02.1999 and served this institution for more than 19 years in the post of Sales Assistant. We convey our heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and pray to the Almighty to give them courage and strength to bear this irreparable loss. May his soul rest in peace.
