    Studio Brief Deliverables

Ian Anderson escaped to the north to study philosophy at The University of Sheffield at a time when Human League and Cabaret Voltaire ruled the airwaves. His company, The Designers Republic, is known the world over for its innovative design approach and originality.

To design something that Ian Anderson would cherish forever, considering its a design communication workshop this design should commuincate something about Ian and his interests.

    Poster design.

    01 Concept

Considering Ians past in desiging for music and from interviews about his practice. Design an event post for Cabaret Voltaire which is one of Ians favourite bands.

The design should commuincate the bands presence and the details of the event that correlate with Ians home Sheffield.

  • Poster

Intial research into existing Cabaret Voltaire promotional posters and events, the design would source elements of these designs to refference back to the brandning of the band and iconic symbols such as th + sign.

    Album Art

The album art uses monochromatic and gothic, crumpled textures to create a hand rendered and post-punk aesthetic.

    Design Research02

  • Colour

The yellow tones are influenced by the TDR signature colours that are used in their branding to link back to Ians studio.

    Textures

Influenced by the post-punk era and and music, warped textures where introcued into the imagery to correlate with Cabaret Voltaires visual style.

    Photography

A press shot of the band is used on the front of the poster to highlight to Ian who the poster is about and also to create a sense of notalgia.

    Final

The final resolution combines all the features of Cabaret Voltaires visual style with subtle hints that reflect Ians studio through colour. The tour dates of when the band visited sheffield where also included again to reinforce nostalgia.

  • Poster

The poster is proposed in a frame for Ian to hang on his wall at home in the studio as a collectors item that he can remenise about and cherish forever.

    Aesthetic

The layout takes on a simple layout, to let the imagery and type take full coverage. The layout is centred for visual consistency and is a common feature used for promotional music poster design.
