• Teaching Assistantships (TA)– TCOM program currently has 5 or 6 positions– TCOM MS students may apply with a minimum
of 12 credit hours in the TCOM program– Preference given:
• 1 to seniority in program• 2 to GPA• 3 to knowledge of course
Currently we have 2 Ph.D. in IT (TCOM graduates) and 4
TCOM TAs; other TCOM students work

(whether 1.5 or 3 credit hour courses) and/or– Receiving a “C” grade in any three courses,
will led to dismissal proceedings
• Appeals against dismissal and termination are lodged with the Associate Dean

• New laboratory option– Wireless Networks and Robotics: lecture and
lab (no unique number yet)• Started in the Spring Semester;
this fall it is TCOM 590 003
This wireless networks course may be taken as a core course elective in place of TCOM 514 or 515, or it may be taken as a Specialty Module 2 or 3 elective course.

• Mandatory Core Course Options (prior to Fall 2006)– TCOM 509 (IP) and TCOM 519 (VoIP)

• Mandatory Core Course Options (from Fall 2006)– TCOM 509 (IP) and TCOM 529 (Adv’d. IP)
may be taken in place of TCOM 501 (LAN) and TCOM 502 (WAN) by students with the requisite background.
This change is in the 2007/2008 catalog.Students wanting to skip TCOM 501/502 must
replace these with TCOM 509/529 (not 509/519)

• New Forensics Course– TCOM 663 “Operations of Intrusion Detection
for Forensics” was approved in December 2006– TCOM 663 was taught as TCOM 690 in Fall
2006– TCOM 663 forms a forensics group with
TCOM 660 “Network Forensics” and TCOM 661 “Digital Media Forensics”

• We are currently developing within the ECE department a SCHEV proposal for a Master’s in Computer Forensics (MCpFRS)
• The MCpFRS could be approved to start in fall 2008
• The MCpFRS will make use of the existing Forensics courses taught in the TCOM program in the TFAS certificate element

• The TFAS certificate will most likely fold into the MCpFRS program when the latter is operational– Current TCOM students taking, or wanting to
take, the TFAS certificate option within their TCOM degree will be “grandfathered” in. They will have the option of transferring to the MCpFRS program or staying in TCOM.
