Taoism gave birth to TCMTraditional Chinese Medicine

Page 3: Tcm five landscapes

TCM is based on:

Wu Xing• 5 Zang Organs • 5 Seasonal Influences• 5 Climates• 5 Emotions• 5 Spirits• 5 Attitudes• 5 Components of the body• 5 Sense organs and . . . . • 5 LANDSCAPES

Page 4: Tcm five landscapes

The Five Landscapes begin from the Web Margins of Fingers and Toes as• YUNG SPRING (Hilly Region) and project into the Wrist and Ankle region as• SHU STREAM (Valleys and Forests) that extend into the longer shafts of the Arms and Legs as • JING RIVER (Plains and Fields) and finally end up along the marshy deltas and shores of the

•HE SEA (Deep Seas and Oceans full of tides)

•JING WELL (Desert) is situated at the Nail Bases where Meridians begin or leave.

This Five-fold division of land into Yung Spring (Kurinchi), Shu Stream (Mullai), Jing River (Marudham), He Sea (Neydhal) and Jing Well (Palai) in TCM, coincides with “Tholkappiyam”, a Master work on Dravidian Literature in Tamil Sangam Period.

This work defines Life in all the Universal beings as a Fusion of the Five Elements.

Everything begins with the five rudimentary elements soil, water, fire, space, and air. They do not manifest themselves in their pure forms. Their fusion in various combinations creates the physical reality. The way they fuse to create living and non-living beings is in the realm of confusion. It cannot be rationalized for the human intellect. The confused fusion or the fusion of the confusion comes naturally to these five elements, which are accustomed to this perplexing physical reality in their traces and characteristics.

Logical reasoning is restrained in that particular time and space, and to pursue it further backward to the pre-(con)fused state of reality becomes impracticable, because of the non-availability of any more plausible fact beneficial to the progression of that logic.

Page 7: Tcm five landscapes

The human mind is compelled to meditate about the history of these five elements· at a time when no thinking being, not even an acquiescent thinking being was present. Thinking being is the response of human beings towards the (con)fusion.

No order or knowledge prevailed until the human mind commenced its process of ordering; it is also unknown whether there was any order at the particular point of time when those five elements were kept remote:

Knowledge is created not to remove the confusion in the physical world but of the human mind. The human mind is perceived as an entity possessing the attributes of the physical world.

The  Rigveda also describes the presence of the “Cosmic Being“ projecting within all the beings of the Universe and the flow of Life as space (Landscapes) and time (Seasons).

With the Ancient Scriptural Works supporting the view of the Landscapes within the Individual, Let us now proceed to explore the Five Landscapes and their relationship to Health and Harmony.

Fire and Water go into Transition to protect the Forms, Structures and cause absolute Union. This treats Febrile conditions to protect the Joints and Connective tissues from distortion, inflammation and destruction. This is analogous to Protection of the shape of a POT or Brick or ICON while the forms are being moulded.

Page 11: Tcm five landscapes

•KURINJI - The Mountains and Hills and the slopes around•UNION – Fire (Yin) interacts with Water (Yang) to preserve the Structure (Joints)•EFFUSION – There is Hugging, Embracing and Blanketing involved during extreme cold and heat•THERMAL INCOMPATIBILITY, Chills and Body’s responses to heat and cold. The Thermoregulation ‘Protects distortion of Joints’ and helps the CNS to regain control.

Page 12: Tcm five landscapes

•POT ANALOGY - Strengthening of a Pot, Brick or an Idol from Breaking or Cracking as a result of proper Annealing

•Clay can be molded into shape to make pots, bricks and icons. The ratio of Water added and the Gradient of the Heating and Cooling back to normal temperature applied carefully is annealing. Otherwise, the Pot breaks, the bricks crack and statue gets distorted.

•Similarly the Ruler of the Shape, Structure of the Body and the Integrity of Joints ruled by Spleen can be treated during Febrile conditions at this Yung Spring level. The Beneficiary element is Earth at this level.

A fort is that which has everlasting water, plains, mountains and cool shady forests.

Similar to the strength of a fortress, the properties of blood and body fluids keep the health in a homeostatic harmony.

Page 15: Tcm five landscapes

•MULLAI - The Dense Forests, Valleys and the Woods around•STAYING – Earth (Yin) interacts with Wood (Yang) to keep the Ecological Balance (Homeostasis) by balancing the physiological functions.•INDUCTION – There is Conversion, Balancing, Stimulation and many routine processes involved• METABOLIC DISHARMONY– Acu Points on Wrists and Ankles (Source Points) treat all Biochemical imbalances

Page 16: Tcm five landscapes

WINDMILL ANALOGY – Conservation of Wind Energy and conversion to Electricity is also analogous to the conservation of Qi in the Lungs.

Earth consuming Wood and vegetable matter goes into aNatural Petrifaction process that yields Petroleum. The Ecological balance in the Forest region representing the Yuan Source Points at the level of Shu Stream Landscape supports the Qi – therefore benefitting the Lungs. Beneficiary Element at this level is Air.

आग गरमा रही है, सोना भी उज्जवल चमता है; तोबा े दद&, आग ी तरह, आदमी ी आत्मा ो परिरष्ृत.

Pure and bright gets the gold in fire; and so the life by pain austere.

The Metal (Gold) is heated (as it is ductile and malleable) by glowing Fire at the Jing River level, so that it is attractively ornamented, and made valuable.

Similarly the crystallized obstructive components can be dis-integrated and thrown out.

Page 19: Tcm five landscapes

•MARUTHAM - The Rivers, Banks, Dams and the Irrigated Areas around•FEIGNING – Air (Yin) interacts with Fire (Yang) to Melt, Mould, Reshape and Shift heavy blocks of matter and energy to purify the system•TRANSITION – There is Transformation of matter, Transition of State of matter and Mass and Energy Transfer involved•OBSTRUCTIVE PATHOLOGY – Acu Points at this level treat all Pathological and Mental Obstructions like Constipation, Calculi, Stones, Fibroids, Clots, Attitude Blocks and even Extra Energy Fields haunting the person.

Page 20: Tcm five landscapes

•CLOUD ANALOGY – Water is Shifted from the Seas into the inward catchment areas for Productivity by the Clouds.•Similarly the points at this Jing River level help to shift Mass like Stones, Calculi, Tumors, Thrombi, Hard Stools and so on. •Points at this level can also break the Mind Barrier to throw away Mental blocks. Purification is the process involved and the Beneficiary element at this level is Water.

The Yin Water element and the Yang Earth element Acupuncture points at the He Sea level signify the constant tides of the seashore, and the movement back and forth. These points stand for abundance of the treasures hidden within the depths which none can fathom. They penetrate as the divergent channels inward. These points are manipulated to Tonify Qi, to Promote social living, to Enhance Fertility and Growth and to help one realize the purpose of life itself.

Page 23: Tcm five landscapes

•NEITHAL - The Seas, Ocean, Shores and Delta Areas around•LONGING – Earth (Yin) conjoins Water (Yang) to promote Fertility, Growth, Learning and Performance ; that can evaluated after a long waiting•CONJUNCTION – There are Total blending of the resources and Promotion of the Vital Parameters required for a happy life•LOSS OF ESSENCE – Acu Points of the Elbow and Knee joints Tonify, Increase Immunity, Fertility and Social Status of a person

Page 24: Tcm five landscapes

TREE ANALOGY – A Tree needs Fertile Earth and Plenty of Water to sprout, grow and to be useful. Similarly there is ELEVATION OF STATUS – A person comes out of Addictions, Aversions and develops Universal Love

Through treatment for Fertility, the Family status improves. By enhancing Learning Memory and Confidence in people, their Life Style gets elevated. The Wood (Growth and Elevation) is benefitted at this He Sea level.

Overgrown Nails (projections of Tendons) represent Wood element and they are clipped out using a Metal Nail cutter; This act reflects the action of Dry Metal cutting the Windy Wood to Control the raising of aggressive Qi during Anger. This also reminds us the Re-structuring (Refinement) of Wood (Yin) by action of Metal (Yang) to transform the Forests into Gardens and Cities and to lead ways towards Civilization and Purposeful Life. Wood constantly tends to grow or reach towards Heaven (Space). Sunshine, Rains and Lightening from Heaven reach the Earth at intervals.

Page 27: Tcm five landscapes

•PALAI - The Desert, Dry land, and Barren land around any place that had lost its originality•SEPARATION – Wood (Yin) conjoins Air (Yang) to promote incineration; therefore the Puteals help the person stand up again•PUTATING – There is an awakening of Life and Life activities from the Hidden Soul or Apparent Death• LOSS OF STABILITY – Acu Points of the Finger Nail Bases and Toe Nail Bases awaken an Unconscious person, into consciousness and are used as Emergency points. Even Revivification had been possible – A person can Live for more time due to this triggering of the Life Essence hidden within

Page 28: Tcm five landscapes

SPARK ANALOGY – A Spark needs Fuel and Air to get inflamed. Therefore the Wood Yin Points and the Air Yang points at this Jingwell Level help to regain consciousness and even Revivification takes place. The Beneficiary at this level is Fire

Page 29: Tcm five landscapes

•Insight into the 60 command points at all these 5 Levels is essential for treating all the Physical, Physiological, Hormonal, Behavioral and Social Disorders in the people

•The 5 Landscapes provide a Real Life vision about the person’s ailment, or needs and this should be seen and understood meticulously by the modern day Acupuncturists.

•TCM offers much more concepts and is based on TAO Philosophy. The ‘Barefoot Doctor’ treatment was successful due to this focus, and no re-visiting the same patient was involved

Page 30: Tcm five landscapes

Science cannot offer a clue or explanation for many greater things in the Universe.

Without Scientific proof “We” follow a Religion and worship GOD in some form or other, based on BELIEF

TAO is above this “Science” and much different from the “Belief” system that had been compelling only disharmony most of the times

Let us follow the TAO to “Lead us to HEAL the Sick and Needy” instead of Framing Laws, Asking Scientific Proof and Legality

TCM is intended to “Help Humanity and all the Creatures under the Sun” and not to make a Self Promotion. The Elevation Naturally comes to the GREAT HEALERS who will become “Kings of Kings”
