TCC PRAYER
In recognition of TCC Day to be celebrated this Friday, our prayer today is the TCC Prayer.
Loving God,
You call us to fullness of life.
Thank you for the gift of quality education that is provided here at
The Cathedral College.
We pray that you help us to make the most of the opportunities
that are offered to us to share our gifts and so experience life in
all its fullness.
May the years we spend here be not only enjoyable but help us to
grow as individuals in your image.
Bless the students, staff and families - past, present and future -
as they are the heart and soul of this College.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

From the PRINCIPAL
Our College is fortunate to have boarding students. In the main, they are young people from rural areas whose
parents have decided they need to seek an education at a bigger school to give them the broadest education
possible. 170 students board at TCC and I am pleased that their parents chose us.
Figures revealed this week, show that despite Year 7 being added to secondary school, the total number of students
boarding at Queensland’s 46 boarding schools has declined in the past 12 months. Many of us would not be
surprised by this given the tough times our rural communities are experiencing with drought and mining downturns.
There is an exception of course. Our school has seen an increase of 30% in boarding numbers since 2010.
It is worth asking why. What qualities does TCC have that makes it attractive to so many boarders?
Our school is a highly sought after destination. It is the school of choice for discerning Central Queensland
parents. All Year Levels are full. Enrolments have grown by 36% since 2010.
Our boarding operates at a high level in terms of care for students. This is a major factor for parents who are
entrusting their sons and daughters to someone else to look after.
Boarding facilities have had $11m invested in them and are the best in Queensland.
The unique, two campus arrangement which allows co-educational boarding in separate locations is not
replicated anywhere else in Queensland.
Our boarders attend school for 38 weeks of the year. Most boarding schools grant their students about 3
weeks extra holidays per year which means less class time.
Our boarding fees and school fees are the most affordable in Queensland.
I take this opportunity to say thank you to all of our boarding staff, led by Assistant Principal: Boarding, Mr
Armstrong and his Heads of House, Mr Lyons and Mrs Armstrong. Well done to you. Thank you also to our parents
who give us such tremendous support and show the trust in us to look after your children – a trust we take very
seriously.

Mrs Claire Stitt From the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL: CURRICULUM YEAR 10 SET PLAN INTERVIEWS I have been very impressed with the manner in which the Year 10 students have approached their selections for study preferences for senior school. They have thought about further career and post-school study options and have been organised with their documents. Thank you to parents/caregivers for assisting in this very important process. Interviews will continue to occur throughout the next couple of weeks. YEAR 9 AND YEAR 10 SUBJECT PREFERENCES Web Preferences for subject selections will close this evening. Please check that your daughter/son has completed their selections and obtained a print out of the receipt. Kind regards
Mrs Brenda Mallory [email protected]

From the BUSINESS MANAGER
STATEMENT OF ACCOUNTS FOR SCHOOL FEES – TERM 3
The School Fee Statements for Term 3 were e-mailed and posted to families during the week ended 7 August 2015. If you have not received your account please e-mail [email protected] and we will forward you a copy.
The due date for payment of these accounts is 28 August 2015. Please make your payment promptly or contact the College Office on 49991300 to make arrangements.
OVERDUE ACCOUNTS FROM PREVIOUS TERMS
Recent meetings with the Principal have highlighted that there are an increasing number of our families who are not paying their fees on time. The College has taken the drastic step of referring a number of families to our Debt Collectors in an attempt to ensure payments are received in the future. This is not a step the College takes lightly but is unavoidable when families continue to ignore their payment obligations.
To continue to provide an excellent level of education, we need each and every parent to pay their fees on time. If a family is experiencing financial difficulties but has not made contact with the College, please contact us as a matter of urgency. The College is more than willing to provide support through reduced payments and longer payment periods to help families through difficult times.
PAYMENT METHODS
Don’t forget to take advantage of the new payment methods introduced in 2014. Bpay and Parent Lounge.
Step by Step instructions can be found on our website for any parents who have not previously used either of these methods.
The College accepts payments in cash at the Reception Counter, by credit card at the Reception Counter or via a telephone call, internet transfers or through the Direct Debit system.
When making any internet transfers please ensure you include your TCC Account Number (this is shown on the top right hand side of the Statement of Account). Without this detail we are unable to identify your payment.
Mrs Julie-Ann Thackeray From the ICT MANAGER As you should now be familiar with using the Parent Lounge portal, it would be valuable for all Parents to please check their contact information listed under the Parent Details area is accurate and up to date. Please note that from within Parent Lounge, by using the Update Address Details option (as per below), this will allow Parents to self-update their own contact and address information at the College as required. If you have any issues with using Parent Lounge, need help changing your password or cannot access your account, you will need to contact the College on 4999 1300 or email [email protected]. Thank you
Mr Aaron Nunn

Mr Dane Stevenson From the CULTURAL COORDINATOR QUEENSLAND CATHOLIC SCHOOLS’ MUSIC FESTIVAL (QCMF)
Congratulations to the students comprising thirteen TCC ensembles who performed at the 25th annual festival hosted
by Villanova College over the weekend. The festival welcomed over 12,500 student performances, by 450 ensembles
representing 100 Catholic schools from across Queensland. A fabulous musical effort by our ensembles brought home
two gold, eight silver, and three bronze awards. Miss Jacqui Baker directed the Stage Band and Concert Band (the
latter co-directed by Mr Kateifides) to bring home silver awards. The Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band directed by Mr
Nicholas Kateifides also returned with silver. Under the direction of Mr Tim Sheppard the students in the Guitar and
Percussion Ensembles were awarded gold and bronze respectively for their performances. The Contemporary Band
(co-directed by Miss Jacqui Baker) received silver for their musical efforts. The String players featured in three sections
this year under the direction of Dr Ayesha Hall. The two String Ensembles were awarded silver and bronze and the
String Orchestra’s musical offering claimed a silver. I was very happy with the Choir’s bronze award for their first
appearance in the A grade section. The Vocal ensemble and Men’s Vocal Ensemble returned with silver and gold
awards respectively. The students enjoyed performances by their peers and many reported being inspired and
encouraged by the outstanding level of musicianship displayed by these young musicians. We received many positive
comments on the behaviour and performance standards of our students. On Sunday morning the Music Ministry
students sang and played (along with some Villanova students) at the Mass to celebrate twenty-five years of QCMF.
The Psalm was beautifully sung by Kaylie Lahz. We were very proud of the confident and respective way in which our
students took on this music ministry role. Whilst in Brisbane the students enjoyed some time at the Carindale
Shopping Centre and an evening of bowling. It was great to catch up with Mr Michael Jones who is now the Director
of Music at Villanova College.
Michael extends his best wishes to the TCC community. Congratulations students on an outstanding effort!!!!!! I
congratulate and thank the directors of each group for their tireless efforts in developing the students’ musicianship
and performance skills. Many thanks to staff members Sr Margaret Dixon, Mrs Claire Stitt, Miss Therese Quinn and
past student Mr Jamie McLeod for their support and supervisory roles throughout the four day musical adventure.

From the ACADEMIC DEAN – SCIENCE
NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK
The College has been hosting a series of visitors from Central Queensland University, each lunch time in the library this week. Many students have been actively engaging with our visitors and discussing career options with these facility representatives. Monday 17 Justine Connor (CQU Nursing) Sonya Saluta (CQU Medial Sciences) James Chapman (Chemical Researcher) Tuesday 18 Carl Legros (CQU Medical Sciences) Wednesday 19 Ian Devenish (CQU Engineering)
The year 8 science classes have been studying energy and the insulation properties of a range of materials. During one of our practicals the class were asked to determine the best material to keep a hot cup of tea warm by measuring the drop in temperature over a set time range. Understanding the importance of the correct ratio of materials in the mixing of concrete is one of projects being undertaken by the year 11 engineering technology students this term. Students were given a variety of mixing ratios and their concrete test beams were then tested to measure their strength.
