Next Steps• Form two committees:
– Green Committee
– Capital Campaign Committee
• Information and feedback sessions on Tuesday evening for new parents, and on Wednesday morning during coffee hour
• Generate a summary of feedback received from parents
• Board and faculty meeting to make a decision about Claver or not
• Negotiation with Diocese
Financing• The estimated cost of transforming Claver Place into The
Brooklyn Waldorf School Castle is approximately $4.50 million.– A large part of this cost derives from the need to update certain core
elements of the building, such as electrical and plumbing systems, and from code-related items such as installation of an elevator servicing all four floors, a fire-alarm system and wet sprinklers throughout.
• Since all the properties we have seriously considered thus far have entailed purchase, renovation and construction costs in the range of $1.0 to 5.0 million or more, the Real Estate Committee has spent considerable time researching the various ways of financing school construction and renovation costs. We have found that most schools fund their facilities with a combination of philanthropic giving, loan money and, in some cases, proceeds received under the federal “new markets tax credits” program. Regular tuition receipts do not usually fund purchase and/or renovation of school properties.
