As per project safety procedures we need to ensure these supports are in a safe condition to hold the load of the pipe as if they are not safe or capable enough to hold the spools in position then they may collapse/fail causing the spools to fall resulting in personal injuries/property damages. GOOD PRACTICES! BAD PRACTICES! What to do? As we are using a number of pipe supports and stands on project so we need to follow these important points to avoid any accident related to pipe supports on site. Only use certified and color coded lifting belts & chain blocks in good condition Never use ropes to support pipes at elevated locations Never directly connect two lifting belts , always use a shackle for this purpose SWL must be marked on all supporting material & the load of pipe must not exceed it The pipe stands must have stoppers on edges Pipe stands must be used on compacted/leveled ground Use wedges to control the movement of pipes Don’t support pipes on scaffold platforms, always use permanent structures Use softeners on structure beams to avoid damaging the lifting belts Don’t release/remove the support till the time pipe is completely welded/secured “ALWAYS ALERT-NO ONE GETS HURT”
