Castles -N- Coasters Phoenix, Arizona, US (2009)

Course Specs: 8 pole, 2 level Sky Trail® Expedition with 28 elements CTS Zip Line

Admission: Included in park admission

“The biggest contribution of the Sky Trail® course for Castles -N- Coasters comes by adding an impressive and different venue to our existing facility. We were intrigued that it could be added as an attraction at our park without the need of additional land. The course is also accessible by the majority of our customer base and was a reasonable expense to purchase and install. The feedback from our clients has been positive. It provides one more marketing feature to attract our client base. We are optimistic that it will help in shortening the turnaround time between customer visits.”

“Our experience with our first course at Mall of America has been a positive one, so adding a second course at West Edmonton Mall was an easy decision. The attraction makes good use of open space. Despite being 3 levels tall, the actual floor space consumed is relatively small. The attraction of a ropes course for guests is something unique and different. It creates a strong family draw and has helped make West Edmonton Mall a major destination spot with worldwide appeal.”

"One of the main attractions is the Mount MacLean Skyway, a huge ropes course that has some very unique elements to it. The efficiency along with all of the cool elements is what makes it unique. There is no wait time because once you are up in the Skyway you are free to move around and no one on the ground is responsible for your belay line. This frees up counselors to actually go climbing and playing with their campers, forming those personal bonds and connections that camp is all about."

"It has been awesome to see how the children that visit the Y frequently have gained so much more confidence since first experiencing the ropes course. Many of the kids that first tried it were unable to complete the first level of the course and with each new visit they are pushing themselves to go through the hardest of our elements. Children and families love the new course and are enjoying challenging themselves while here at the Y."

Industry: Family Entertainment CenterThe modern family entertainment center (FEC) offers a variety of attractions and experiences such as amusement games, arcades, coin-operated machines, indoor play, pinball, video games and physical play options like batting cages, bowling, paintball and ropes courses. Ropes Courses, Inc. classifies bowling centers, cinemas and skating rinks in this industry as well.

The FEC industry is ever-changing and evolving to find the right combination of attractions to increase their competitive draw. Consumers expect a fun night out to include a meal and opportunities to have fun and socialize. A Sky Trail® ropes course is a natural addition to a facility in the FEC industry because of it’s target audience compatibility, low maintenance costs and minimal staffing requirements. Not only does a ropes course capitalize on unused air space to allow for activities underneath, but FECs can also expect an increase in customer dwell time for additional arcade, food and beverage purchases.

Read on to see which family entertainment centers have found success with a Sky Trail®.

“We first looked into a tree tops ropes course but decided that the Sky Trail® design was a better fit with our current building themes and customer base. It’s ideally suited for families with safety concerns and those that are trying a ropes course activity for the first time. The course is located right next to the road, which has raised the profile of the business, generated a lot of first time users and also brought back customers that haven’t been for a few years. We’re considering adding a Sky Rail™ down the road to continue to grow business.”

“Our facility features batting cages, mini golf courses and an indoor play center all of which were aging. The Sky Trail® ropes course brought life back into the facility. It’s increased our golf and birthday sales because it keeps our customers on site for longer periods of time. Our primary market is families with kids ages 5-12, but we have adults that want to conquer their fear of heights and boast of their achievements. It’s fun for participants and the observers!”

Our Sky Trail® is located over our arcade games and it enhances the visual appeal of our facility. The installation process went great; we were actually able to stay open during the process and it turned out to be a great marketing ploy because it intrigued our visitors so much. We added the ropes course to our birthday party packages and it’s been a hit. We host an average of 1,300 birthday parties a year and also sell a lot of packages for school outings, corporate events and team building sessions. Our walk-in customers love it too!”

Constructed using the highest quality steel components, Sky Trail® ropes courses have a much longer life expectancy than a course made from wood with minimal ongoing maintenance required. Specialist marine grade paint is used as standard on all courses, and for locations near the coast, we offer a galvanized finish to reduce the risk of corrosion from the salty sea air.

Industry: Restaurant or Retail Shopping CenterRestaurants and retail shopping centers fulfill people's basic, personal and social needs. These facilities bring people in to eat food and shop for merchandise, however, it is just as important for these businesses to maintain a social and entertainment value for their guests as well. Common features of shopping centers and restaurants are musical entertainment or recreational attractions such as arcade games and children’s play areas. A number of research studies have determined entertainment has a direct impact on food and retail sales and the frequency of visits.

A Sky Trail® ropes course draws consumers into an establishment because it provides a multi-dimensional experience for people of all ages and it has a safe and unique appeal. The patented participant safety system allows users ages 2-102 to experience a Sky Trail® or Sky Tykes® ropes course. It also encourages repeat visits so new friends or family members can experience the in-the-air thrills in a unique setting.

52 53Restaurant or Retail Shopping Center FEED guests' need for adventure

A key aspect of Sky Trail® is the ability to offer high capacity and throughput. This is achieved through the use of a continuous overhead tracking system that follows the path of the course. This prevents ‘bottlenecking’ that can occur on more traditional courses as participants wait for the person in front of them to complete an element. The Sky Trail® system ensures every person can enjoy their high ropes experience at their own pace.

Industry: Sports Facility or Adventure FacilityA sports or adventure facility is a public leisure center that promotes physical activity to help people develop coordination, strength and flexibility. They’re usually large in size with a variety or combination of indoor and outdoor attractions. These facilities account for guests with a range of abilities to enjoy challenging recreation, informal games or competitive sports.

The Sky Trail® ropes course experience provides similar benefits. Participants can improve their social skills and expand their comfort zone as they traverse the rope activities high off the ground. Participants with low self-confidence or a fear of heights do not feel the anxiety traditional sports may bring. While some may not perceive ropes courses to provide intense physical exercise, the experience does require strength, flexibility and proper coordination.
