Tax Legislation Related to Foundations and Associations in Turkey and Public Benefit Status: Current Situation and Recommendations Report is Published in English TUSEV published the Tax Legislation Related to Foundations and Associations in Turkey and Public Benefit Status: Current Situation and Recommendations Report. Prepared as part of TUSEV’s work for developing a better fiscal regime for civil society organizations (CSO) in Turkey, the report is the most comprehensive study on fiscal environment up to date. The report analyses the current situation of the fiscal legislation and Public Benefit Status in Turkey and offers recommendations for improvements in the tax regime under Fiscal and Tax Regulations for the Foundations and Associations in Turkey and the Tax Exemption Status for Foundations and Public Benefit Status for Associations parts. Philanthropy Talks: The Role of Philanthropy in Promoting Coexistence TUSEV hosted the fourth Philanthropy Talks, launched in order to bring together the Emerging Leaders in Philanthropy Program alumni group and civil society professionals to share their knowledge and experiences on issues related to the development of philanthropy, on 31 October 2018. In the meeting held with the title “The Role of Philanthropy in Promoting Coexistence”, Yörük Kurtaran, Trustee of the Support Foundation for Civil Society, Aytül Özcan, Project Coordinator at Sulukule Volunteers Association and Evren Ergeç, Founding Member of Karakutu Association shared their knowledge and experiences related to the ways in which civil society organizations working to promote peace building and peaceful coexistence should be supported by individual and institutional donors. Philanthropy Professionals Alumni Meeting was Held on September 12 TUSEV organized the Philanthropy Professionals Program Alumni Meeting on September 12, 2018 in order to bring together the Emerging Leaders in Philanthropy Program alumni group and foster discussion about news and developments within the sector. Participants who graduated from five terms of the program since 2014 shared their experiences and suggestions about what can be done to strengthen philanthropy and giving in Turkey. TUSEV Attended the Grantmakers East Forum 2018 TUSEV attended the 23rd annual Grantmakers East Forum (GEF), a thematic network of the European Foundation Center (EFC) which helps sustaining steady development of philanthropy and civil society in communities and states in wider Europe and facilitating collaborative efforts of the philanthropic sector to fully integrate into European and global philanthropic initiatives and institutions. Held in Budapest, Hungary on 15-17 October 2018, with the theme “Reframing Civil Society: Actors, Values, Tools” the forum created an opportunity to talk and share experience on shrinking civic space and the roles of grantmaking organizations on facing these challenges. The project, which is funded by European Union and carried out by TUSEV under Civil Society Law Reform Program Area, aims to contribute to the enhancement of an enabling legal and fiscal environment for civil society organizations (CSO) and to increase CSO participation in policy and decision- making processes. International Civil Society Week 2019 will be Held in Belgrade International Civil Society Week (ICSW) 2019, organized by CIVICUS in partnership with Civic Initiatives as a local host and Balkan Civil Society Development Network as a partner will be held in Belgrade, Serbia on 8-12 April 2019. World Giving Index 2018 is Published World Giving Index 2018, an annual report that analyses charitable behaviour around the world and shares insights into the nature of giving and trends in global generosity, is published by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF). The report ranks countries in terms of helping a stranger, donating money and volunteering time. Indonesia ranked in the first place, followed by Australia and New Zealand. Turkey is ranked 131 out of 146 countries with an overall giving score of 20%. Click here for more information. The Global Philanthropy Environment Index 2018 European Edition is Published The Global Philanthropy Environment Index 2018 European Edition is published by Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy in collaboration with the Donors and Foundations Networks in Europe (DAFNE). The index provides information about the philanthropic landscape of 30 European countries and evaluate their regulatory, political, and socio-cultural environments via a standardized instrument completed by country-based experts. European Foundation Centre’s Annual General Assembly and Conference will be Held in Paris European Foundation Centre’s (EFC) 30th Annual General Assembly and Conference will be held in Paris on 22-24 May 2019, with the theme “Liberté, Egalité, Philanthropie”. This year’s conference sessions aim to discuss the ways in which philanthropy can help turn the vision of a free, democratic and equitable society into a reality, with a focus on current global challenges such as; migration crisis in relation to inequalities and brotherhood, freedom of speech and freedom of the press, inequalities in access to education, culture and health, ways to promote human rights and encourage new forms of solidarity and inclusion. The International Day of the Girl Child Conference was Held Aydın Doğan Foundation organized the 4th annual International Day of the Girl Child Conference on October 11, in cooperation with UNICEF, UN Women and UNFPA. The title of this year’s conference was "Leave no one behind! Girls' Empowerment through Science, Arts and Sports" and it focused on revealing the full potential of girls to shape the future of societies, eliminate obstacles they face and create social awareness on gender equality. During the sessions national and international role models to girls shared their own success stories with 500 participants from public and private sectors, civil society, academia, media and children themselves. The 22nd Istanbul Theatre Festival Will Raise the Curtain on 17 November Organized by Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) the 22nd edition of the Istanbul Theatre Festival will take place between 17 November and 4 December 2018. The festival offers theatregoers an extensive program, featuring a range of plays, dance shows and performances from Turkey and abroad, as well as side events. Presenting 12 international and 12 local productions, in 18 different venues, the festival program also features many events including panels, film screenings, master classes and workshops with the participation of international guests and experts. Ancient City of Metropolis Welcomes Back Seat of Honor with Griffins “The Seat of Honor with Griffins”, which was found well-preserved during the excavations in Metropolis, the City of Mother Goddess, which have been carried out with support of the Sabancı Foundation, has been reproduced to be installed in its original two-thousand-year-old location in the Ancient Theater. The replica, carved by sculptor Sinan İlhan by using the pantography technique, was installed in the seat’s original place in the Ancient Theater in a ceremony hosted by Nevgül Bilsel Safkan, General Manager of the Sabancı Foundation, and Prof. Dr. Serdar Aybek, Head of Department of Archeology, Manisa Celal Bayar University. The original Seat of Honor with Griffins, which was found in 1995 in the Ancient Theater, one of the most remarkable artifacts of the Ancient City of Metropolis, is displayed in Izmir Archeology Museum. Dreams Academy Project is Ten Years Old Dreams Academy, launched with the participation of Vodafone Turkey Foundation, UNDP and Alternative Life Association, has been promoting projects for the social inclusion of socially disadvantaged and disabled people for ten years. Playing an important role in the spread of volunteerism, especially among the young people in Turkey, Dreams Academy, has helped over 6,000 disabled young people to overcome obstacles with the contribution of approximately 20,000 volunteers, up until September 2018.
