MAINS COMPLIANCE

An essential course for all those who work on or near a live electrical supply and need to ensure that they are a ‘competent person’ under the terms of the ‘electricity at work’ regulations.

If you wish to install security systems or other electrical equipment in commercial or domestic properties, this course will teach you how to install fused spurs and conduct other work safely, efficiently and legally within current legislation.

WHY DO I NEED COMPLIANCE? Anyone who works on or near a live electrical supply is covered by the electricity at work regulations and has a statutory duty of care to ensure that work is carried out by a competent person.

WHAT DEFINES A COMPETENT PERSON? A competent person is one who can demonstrate by gaining a recognised qualification that he or she can work safely on electrical supplies.

WHO ATTENDS THE COURSE? This course has been designed for all security systems installers and maintenance engineers working on or near live electrical supplies, reducing the risk of electrical injury and maintaining compliance with the electricity at work regulations 1989.

WILL THE COURSE COVER PART P? No, this course does not provide you with a Part P qualification but will allow you to undertake ‘minor works’. This is electrical work that does not involve the addition of a new circuit but includes adding new sockets or fused spur to and existing circuit.Although this work does not have to be undertaken by a registered electrician you will be required to complete minor work certification, all electrical work must comply BS 7671, the wiring regulations.

The Security Industry Authority has developed competency requirements as part of its licensing function. Individuals applying for an SIA License must prove they are properly qualified to carry out their duties. If you do not hold one of the SIA endorsed qualifications your application may be refused.

The SIA has introduced a modular structure to its licensing qualification. SIA 1 is the common module and is mandatory prior to completing your first licensing courses. Once completed this core module means less overlap and duplication in training content across the sectors. It also makes it easier to gain qualifications for additional sectors, as just the relevant additional modules need to be taken.

COURSE CONTENT Understanding the private security industry Awareness of the law in the private security industry Qualities required of Security operators Health and Safety for the private security operative Fire and safety awareness Emergency procedures Dealing with threat calls Communications skills Customer Care Data Protection and Human Rights Act
