FBLA will be hosting a Student/Teacher Volleyball game on Tuesday. Tickets will be on sale today and Friday during lunches. Tickets are $2.00 for seniors and $3.00 for all other students. Students interested in playing against the teachers must be an athlete at THS and have a completed athletics packet on file – sign-ups to play will be during lunch on Wednesday and Thursday – and a final approved roster will be posted on Monday. Come out and support our teachers and students in this fun event.

Tavares Varsity Boys’ Basketball will be participating in the two day Florida State Elks Association Holiday Basketball Classic in Umatilla December 27th and December 28th. Games start at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Teams participating in the tournament are Eustis High, South Sumter High, Liberty Christian, and your very own Tavares High. The tournament takes place at the multi-million dollar Elks Camp in Umatilla. Tickets are $10 and good for both nights. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket please see Coach Campbell in Room 5-101. Go Dawgs!

2001 - It was announced that Siena Heights University would begin offering a class called "Animated Philosophy and Religion." The two-credit class would cover how religion and philosophy are part of popular culture and is based on the television series "The Simpsons."

2010 - The U.N. Security Council gave a vote of confidence to the government of Iraq when they lifted 19-year-old sanctions on weapons and civilian nuclear power.
