Society
• Is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering discipline
• Is the nation's second-oldest Honor Society next to Phi Beta Kappa
• Is the largest engineering honor society in the world
• Recognizes students of distinguished scholarship and exemplary character.
Tau Beta Pi…
• Founded on June 15th, 1885 at Lehigh University
• Encompasses 242 active chapters in 16 districts across the United States
• Currently has approximately 554,000 initiated members
• Current headquarters is at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN

• Founded on October 10th, 1925
• Notable Members: Dr. Harrelson, Dr. Mann, and Larry Monteith
• Currently has 5,857 initiated member

What Do I Need to Do?
► Dues: One time fee, $85.00 to become Tau Beta Pi
Member►Split between HQ, Fall Banquet, Food for
meetings, other organizational expenses►Financial aid plan available through HQ if
necessary► Bent:
Given personal bent to shine as per Tau Beta Pi tradition
What Do I Need to Do?► Quiz:
Brief quiz given, study material provided► Signature Sheets:
Required to get signatures from TBP members including professors, officers, chairs, others
► Engineering Futures: TBA, will be announced in chapter-wide email
► Service and Social Activities: TBA, will be announced in chapter-wide email
► District Meeting: Weekend meeting in spring. Rides will be
provided, most expenses paid
What Do I Need to Do?► General Meeting:
There will be three general meetings which you can attend for points (All times 6:30-7:30 pm, location TBA, email reminders!) ►September 30th ►TBD►TBD
► Induction Ceremony: The final step in becoming a member is to attend
the actual ceremony which will be held on TBD. Initiation attendance is mandatory in order to become an official member.
► Banquet: Immediately follows Induction Ceremony
►Parents, friends, and other members invited. RSVP required.
For Graduate Students:
► 50-50 Rule: Must be 50% through your coursework And 50% through your research
► Must be verified by your advisor in a signed letter
