Tata Steel was one of the main foundations on which this pioneering industrial group has continued to grow

    around the world.

    - Tel l us something about yo u?You have tell about your qualities and any special achievement you had in yourcareer so far.Do not boast a lot. Be modest while giving answer to this question.Refer standard answers on blogs, books etc.

    - What are your lon g term go als? They don't want to hear that you plan to go for higher studies as in that case you aregoing to leave their firm;An ideal answer is "I plan to take hands-on experience on what I have learnt during

my college years"If specifically asked what do you think about M.Tech/ MS / MBA?Answer: I will look at my colleagues and company's atmosphere. If a degree gives my colleagues a competitive edge then I may plan in future but fornow I don't have any such specific plans.

    - What are your strength and w eakness? You will have to identify based on what you have done in your life.Lets say someone says, Positive Thinking, Adaptability, Self-Motivation etc.

There is a high probability that Interviewer may ask you to give an example of yourstrength. He may ask, tell us the situation where you have physical and mentally strong tosituations? (Once he hear Adaptability)You must tell about your JNV Experience. How you have learnt to manage thingsfrom the early age.

He may ask you to give an example of Self-Motivation.A friend of mine, who studied in a govt school in a village till 10th standard. Hisschool had only 1 teacher for class 10th.He cracked IIT JEE 2009. This must have been a very good example of Self-

    Motivation.

So prepare list of qualities you have and also prepare an story associated witheach quality.Try to choose story from your resume. So that you direct your interviewtowards your resume.

    - Why have you appl ied for this com pany? You must have an reason for applying to each company. If you don't have anyspecific then just speak about 3 things:

-Company's objective and work (refer company website before interview)

  • 8/12/2019 TATA steel interview

    7/8

-Company's people (like you will get an opportunity to learn from industry experts/people will be from all across the country and different background and culture)-Your strength and interest (How your resume is inclined towards this particularcompany)If you know the job profile then you must explain how you are interested for the

    particular job profile.

Do Not speak about profits company made by company in last year or howstock has risen up or how is has acquired a firm recentlyYou must have information about latest happenings in company but you shalltell it when you specifically asked for that.

    - Why should be select you ?You have to speak about your qualities/ strength in short. Some students worry that what is special in these qualities, even other students

might have same skills.Avoid thinking in such a direction. You don't need to create special qualities for you.Tell what you are good at. If you have not realized it yet, then search it.

How to answer these questions better, you must go through Chapter 2, 3 and 4 ofbook'Fearless Interviewing' which is available at DC++ of any college.Else ask your friends in IITs to share with you.

    5. How to prepare Resume

    - Regarding making Resume, you must go through some 25 sample resume. You may ask your seniors of colleges for the kind of resume generally prepared inyour college. In IIT Kharagpur, one page resume is preferred.

Making a good looking resume is just one part of Resume Preparation. You must be able to explain each and everything written in your resume.

I will give one example here with the help of an example.Lets say I write about my internship at Tata-Steel as following:

Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur May-June 20Replacement of conventional instruments with Field Bus compatible instruments in Cascade Control Simulator for Level Contro

dentified and successfullyinstalledinstruments in the plant simulator & tuned PID gainparameterschieved cost benefits by reducing wiring cost and diminishing the need for controllers and hardwareearning Outcomes: P&I Diagrams, Cascade Control Systems, Foundation Field Bus Technology & its benefits

With this piece of information I may expect questions from- Tata Steel company's profile, its products- What is Field Bus Technology?- What are the similar technologies?- In Resume I have replaced conventional instruments with new technologyinstruments. Then why have done so?

  • 8/12/2019 TATA steel interview

    8/8

    - What are the economic benefits for the company?- What did I learn from this project?- What were results of my project?

I am avoiding the technical question. This should have been sufficient to understand

how should you be preparing your resumes.I will suggest to think about 4 things while mentioning any project or work:- Description of the project/ task in lay-man words- What has been done in the project/ task- What were the results of project/ task- What did you learn from project/ task

You must prepare a good short note on above 4 points.
