1. AGE• Over all drama films are aimed at teenagers to older adults.

This is because in most drama films, topics covered can be distressing and can only be understood and interpreted by older people. For example mental illness and drugs.

• Drama films are often rated between a 12A and a 15 and depending on the nature of the film most drama films will appeal to males and female teenagers aged 12 to people 39 year olds.

• Some drama films such as ‘The Marigold Hotel’ are aimed at people 40 years old and over. Our teen character should lower our age group a little.

• This genre has a broad target audience because there are so many topics that drama films cover appealing to a broader audience of people. For example drama films can cover anything from illnesses to war, appealing to many different ages as well as genders.

2. Gender• Drama films are mainly aimed at women. This is

because these films tell a story and usually include more emotion, something that is related to women and is assumed what women look for in films. • However both men and women can enjoy these

drama films. Males can enjoy these films just as much as women. Our male protagonist may help this. “The King’s Speech” had a large male audience, for example. There are also drama films that will mainly focus on a male audience for example war films.

3. VALs• The genre drama can be targeted at anyone from different

demographics. This is because drama films can target many different topics from many different people from different backgrounds. For example the idea that a drama film such as ‘The Godfather’ can be classed under the genre as a film like ‘Forrest Gump.’ They can target people from many different classes because drama films discuss many different themes in their films.

• These films are released on a global scale and appeal to most people because of the different topics they cover in so many different films. Our film has a theme of mental disorders – and I think this appeals to people who feel they are kind, sensitive and aware of issues. This is something we can play up in our advertising.

4. Genre Evidence• People are attracted to films with attractive actors in as well

as honoured actors- people who have won awards for their work because people believe that this film will be good if they’re in it, for example Jenifer Lawrence.

• Drama films are produced and distributed on a larger scale to a global audience. It can take one of two routes: either it is a problem that is faced by people from an MEDC where audiences can relate to elements of the film or it is a film about people from less privileged backgrounds. It almost teaches the audience about world events and issues, for example ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ relating loosely to those living in slums in India.

…• Our audience would most likely have seen drama films that

include characters with mental health issues, films such as ‘Silverlinnings Playbook’ or the film ‘Melancholia’ which manages to portray mental illnesses successfully in their films and if audience enjoy these pieces then will most probably enjoy our piece.
