Do research into similar music magazines on which you could base your magazine. Map out possible ideas for your music magazine including names, possible music genres and ideas for articles.

This magazine is similar to what I aim for my magazine to look like due to its layout and general vibe that it gives off.

Vibrant colours incorporated in house style

Main image portrays ‘alternative’ look with people who have character and appeal to the target audience

Edgy font which stands out from background and also fits with the rest of the layout and house style

Coverlines give brief details about the main story/band and this one particularly stands out as it says ‘sex, skins and standing in the way of control’.

Typical masthead is vital part of the magazine as it identifies and credits the magazine.

Masthead again is bright and located at top left corner as it is the main focus of the reader’s eye.

Main image is vibrant and stands out again with a vivid theme which will attract the alternative audience I am aiming to sell my magazine to.

Coverlines/straplines look professional yet they still stand out on the page.

I will use most of the features that have been displayed in the NME and SPIN magazine as I think they are very effective and will produce a good outcome on my target audience. Hopefully, if I stick to the layouts and follow the professional style; my magazine will appeal to the reader and its will have the effect that I intend it to.

These genres of magazine appeal to a younger audience and we can tell this from their use of wording and their general layout. Therefore, I will be using most of the features and aspects from these magazines so that I can successfully lure my audience.
