Transcript of Task 4

Who is watching what ?

All media is produced with a specific audience in mind. Audience is after all the most important part of media, without consumers, the product is pointless. There are many different aspects we have to take into consideration when producing a product of media for the right audience to be interested in it. A persons religion, race, class, age, gender, sexual preferences, ability and many other things all play a part in what they are going to enjoy in media and what they will not.

StereotypingStereotyping plays a very big part in audience selection.

When a media product is being produced the audience that the makers are aiming atAre only assumed to like the product due to the way they are stereotyped.

New bandSerpico

For our band to be successful,

we are going to have to spread the word

about them and their music.

We can see from the way that the members dress and the guitars being present that they are more than likely going to be a rock band. Therefore when we are going to promote this band to get them known, we are going to promote to the correct audience. We will do this by stereotyping.

We see the members are relatively young as a result we will assume firstly that younger people will have more of an interest in this band. We can see that they are just your normal everyday guys that you’d pass on the street, so we would be aiming more at lower and working class people. Due to the fact we can see that their genre is more than likely to be rock music, we would feel less likely to spread the word to very religious people. Both males and females may be interested in this band thus we do not need to take gender into consideration. Ability is not touched on so again do not need to take consideration.

Since the band is new, their promoting will be done mainly through gigging and the internet. Our best bet to spread the word is to then flyer at gigs which are of the same music genre as the new band ‘Serpico’

The same applies to movies, tv programmes, music, radio. If myspace is used by younger people and linkledn is used by older people and you want to promote a movie for teenagers, you would promote it on myspace as apposed to linkledn as you want to get the right audience being influenced by your advertisement.

From us stereotypingAnd spreading word to people Who seemed to be theCorrect audience, we See that a successfulGig takes place and the Word of the new band is spread.
