Unit 70 – 3D Game Workflow

I have been tasked with creating a 3D level within the Unity program with the intent of it being used for an RPG-Horror/Survival game. We must texture and sculpt our own landscape then add assets to create depth to the level.

I started by browsing the asset store for objects and textures to add to my game.

I textured my terrain to add more detail with the packages I got from the asset store. Once that was done, I drew some paths with another asset store texture.

After I was done I found some trees and other objects in the asset store to add another level of complexity to the level (Campfire, etc.)

I put a rune at the top of this hill, as the island only had trees and it felt a little hollow with just that.

After decorating my first island, I created a second one by raising the terrain out of the water with the terrain tools.

I decorated my second island in similar fashion to the first, but with more traces of civilization on it.

Houses.

Attachments & extensions to the houses.

Street-lamps to add some lights to the area.

I added a smaller island to make a boat port on, but the asset store didn’t have a port-building to place on it.

To make the sand around the island I raised the island out of the water with the grass texture on it, and then painted on a ring of sand to make it look like a small “shore”.

I made a 4th island as a test to experiment with imported textures and different tools, making a star shaped “bowl” a ways off from the first island. It was intended to hold a huge open fire, but a lack of fire particles made me remove the tinder from the bowl.

I painted the bottom of the star in a red variant of the existing texture instead, just to add some contrast to the island.

To finish off my level, I added a bridge to connect the 1st and 2nd islands.

I added meshes to all the objects that needed them, and then declared my level complete.
