Distribution Companies

Who would distribute your film?

• Major distribution company, 20th Century Fox- I think this company would distribute and be interested in our film because they distribute a lot of thriller films. For example Taken, Die Hard and Max Payne.• Independent distribution company, Metrodome- I think this company

would distribute our film because they are a local company in the UK and have a vast variety of films with thrillers included like Shifty.

Will your audience be local or worldwide?I think the audience for this film would be local so in the UK because I don’t believe it will challenge blockbuster movies that are in demand at the moment worldwide. I would like a company like Metrodome would be the perfect fit because they are local, in the UK in London and can distribute our film in the country. Also it is were are film is based and it will be easy to advertise and ship to British cinema’s.

Strategies

This is going to be a release strategy we will have. We will need some marketing materials such as trailers, posters and T.V. commercials. Then we need to get some promotions, we want a small company because big ones we only go for blockbuster films so we might go with someone like orange. Then we will need some screening like Show Film First do. After we will make some public relations, we need interviews, events and a premiere to do so. And finally social media to advertise our film like a Facebook Page, Twitter and Youtube.

Self Distribution

If we considered distribution we might because it will retain full control and rights over our film, giving us the choice over where our film is shown. We don't have to give a cut of our money made from any sales of our film to a distributor. There are also disadvantages to self distribution. It can be a full-time job in itself as it can be very time consuming chasing buyers and sales and filling in paperwork. It may limit our options for sales as distributors have established relationships with buyers and many buyers may only be interested in packages of films. We need to be very legally savvy and make sure we are not signing away rights to our film that'll prevent us from showing it elsewhere.
