Should factual products contain bias? Factual products are documents that sustain information about a certain subject. For example this could be anything from leaflets that contain information about eye sight and the effects of contact lenses and glasses, to cookery books that include methods on how to make something. A factual product is essentially anything that publishes information about something, whether it is instructions or even a television documentary. These types of products are created to inform people about certain topics or issues that are becoming more popular. They are also created to raise awareness for things for example, a book relating to depression and their linked effects would raise awareness for that particular topic or even providing a guide for people to improve their daily lives and maybe even help them achieve something. They are there to inform and instruct people on a day to day basis. Some factual products such as nutritional information on the back of a food product is a legal agreement that must include everything that is in the product for the consumers own authority and health. These types of factual products are important to provide professional and formative facts to ensure the well-being of the consumer to ensure that they can intake everything that is in the product. There are many different reasons why factual products should not contain bias information. This is because it could sway our opinions on political, social and economical issues. Its important that all factual products include information that is not bias because opinions that are expressed in the product could make the public uneasy or potentially anger someone or a certain demographic of people. These things could potentially damage the companies’ reputation as they are relied on to create a truthful document. Adding bias into that document can create something misleading which may also manipulate them which is not something they want. The audience are purely buying the product for straight forward information on the subject in question. The product would not then be completely factual anymore. Its important to thing about the publics reactions and what containing bias information could cause. It depends on what type of product and the information it includes to if bias is to be included. For example, if a leaflet was designed to show people about depression and the effects, bias information on this behalf would be good to show the reader how real people have overcome certain situations and how they have felt when they have had depression. Bias information in this form is good as it relates to the reader in particular in a comforting way knowing that someone out there has the same issues as you.

There could be specific forms of bias that are included in factual products such as in the form of quotes to express certain opinions on the subject of the product. However, this should not be a major part of the publication as it should focus on the factual majority.
