    Task 2 (P3, M1, D1)

A good citizen in my opinion is a person who is helpful to all people in society,

somebody who has responsibility to bring the community together for special

occasions or events, also somebody who helps to inform the police of disturbances

to their neighbourhood. A good citizen can be anybody who does their bit for society,

environment and other people who need assistance or other forms of help within

their everyday lives. A difference can be make if everyone just picked up one bit of

little and place it in a recycling bin to help the environment, a little goes a long way.

Equality is a difficult concept for some people to grasp due to their personal beliefs

however, the meaning of equality is people should be given equal opportunity to get

involved in specific events or activities. Special efforts may be needed to allow the

opportunity for minority groups such as, disabled or gender groups to take part in the

events or activities organised, this way more people can benefit from taking part in

    the event.

Being a good citizen and equality is important to be respected because we live in a

diverse society where different cultures and races live together in a community,

equality is important in civilian life because people will be offended and feel

discriminated against by not being treated as equal as the next person in line.

However when a good citizen gives all people in that community with equal

opportunities, they can work together to make their community better for everybody

and the general atmosphere amongst the community will head towards a positive

outcome. For example, a ramp or disabled access to a community centre.

When equality is disrespected events occur that damage a positive reputation of a

community, events such like the riots of Bradford, on the evening of the 7 th of July

2001 a group of people who felt they were disrespected for who they were, resulted

to violence and damaged the community because they was not treated equally in

    society.

The Police require good citizens to report any disturbances that may occur in the

community, the police control crime within the community by policing by consent of

the people, when the good citizens of a community contact the police of a crime that

has been committed in that community. The police give equal rights and respect to

those who wish to be a police officer, they must consider different cultures into the

service because there are different cultures in every community all over the country.

Other similar civilian voluntary organisations is the neighbourhood watch

organisation, this is a group of people from a specific neighbourhood that work

together with the police to protect their community from crime and other problems

that may occur. Although this group must give equal opportunity and allow the

people of different cultures who live in that neighbourhood, to get involved and

express an opinion in the collective interest of keeping their neighbourhood safe.

    It is important to the police or any other public service to respect equality because;

some people may need support from the Police and community due to an

abnormality of a limb or what ethnic or European origin the person has generated

from. These are issues that face the public services in the modern society but what

needs to be understood is that we are all human; and no matter how we are all

genetically different we are all the same and equality shows how differences are

    beneficial to the public services.

For example, in the Royal Air Force; we have two applicants one is a man approx 5ft

8 and excellent eyesight and another man who is 6ft 10 but must wear glasses.

The differences between these two applicants can determine what trade they enrol

into. The shorter man would be ideal to become a pilot due to having good eyesight,

the taller man is too tall to be a pilot as it would be difficult to get into the cockpit,

however I would suggest the taller man being a logistics officer or an aircraft

engineer if he still wishes to be around the aircraft.
