Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan . The population is over 3 million.

In medieval times the town was known as “Chach”. Later, the town came to be known as “Chachkand/Chashkand”, meaning “Chach city”.

After the 16th century, the name was eventually changed slightly to Tashkand, which means “stone city”.

Climate

So, what’s the climate?Tashkent has a big range of temperatures. Winter in January is zero degrees, while in summer it can reach forty degrees, which is equal to Perth in western Australia. Why does Tashkent have such extreme temperatures? Because it is land-locked, unlike New Zealand which has sea all around it.
