    Abstract:

Malcolm Square is a landmark located at the heart of the city of Baguio. It is a small public auditorium at the north end of Session Road, a popular place for free concerts, meetings, promos, and other public and private activities. The true image of Malcolm Square as a famous plaza and park is slowly deteriorating through time because of vandalisms and lack of discipline of people who use it. It seems that the beauty of the place is gone and has become very dull. The researchers want to make a proposal for rehabilitation of the said landmark in terms of aesthetics and sustainable design through engineering inter-vention, but maintaining its full function for the benefit of the stakeholders and the city of Baguio. The researchers want to know the social acceptability of the proposed rehabilitation of Malcolm Square for the feasibility of the said project or structure and development.

Social acceptability is when most people feel comfortable or better than they did before, it is supposedly what the majority of society thinks is standard, or how things should be. This is the reason why the researchers want Malcolm Square to regain its former beauty and make its environment conducive for its purpose.

    Objective

The objective of this study aims to know if the proposed rehabilitation of Malcolm Square will be highly accepted by the stakeholders. Al-so, this study aims to know the benefits for the stakeholders with respect to economics, tour-ism, local residents, and to the City of Baguio.

    Statement of the Problem

This study aims to answer the level of so-cial acceptability of the proposed rehabilitation of Malcolm Square and the benefits of the pro-posed rehabilitation of Malcolm Square for the stakeholders have with respect to:

    A. Aesthetics; B. Serviceability; and C. Safety

Significance of the Study Malcolm Square is a multipurpose auditorium intend-

ed for concerts, promos, meetings and other private and public events. The structure has lost its splendor and in-tended purpose because of the shortcomings of the de-sign.

The outcomes of this study will serve as an aid for re-

habilitation for the landmark in terms of aesthetic and to maintain its function. The rehabilitation should be socially pleasant and comfortable all while bringing in pedestrian attention that could serve good purpose for the citys tour-ism.

Furthermore, the outcome of this study is beneficial to

the stakeholders, specifically to the local residents of Ba-guio City, tourists and businessmen. This is because the rehabilitation will be socially acceptable multipurpose structure that will propel the landmarks tourism. It will then get the opinions of the stakeholders whether or not reha-bilitating the landmark is acceptable.

    Conceptual Framework

    Study Area:

The research focuses on Malcolm Square. Mal-colm Square: Peoples Park is found at the heart of Baguio along Session Road. Session Road is di-vided in two sections: Upper and Lower Session Road. Upper Session Road starts from the Post Office and the foot of Luneta Hill all the way to the rotunda of South Drive, Military Cut-off Road and Loakan Road, while Lower Session Road runs from Governor Pack Road and Baguio Cathedral down to Baguios version of Manilas Plaza Miran-da, the Malcolm Square.
