If you do not have Adobe Contribute installed on your computers, a free trial of this software can be downloaded from

Click on the Adobe Contribute CS4 item, located in your start menu.

Once open, click on ‘Web site Connection’ under Create New.

The Adobe Contribute Connection Wizard Welcome Dialog Box is displayed in the center of the Adobe Contribute window.

 Click on the ‘Next’ button

The next screen asks you for the Web address of the Web site that you wish to edit. For this training session, type in the following address:

http://targetedtrainingllc.angelfire.com

Click on the ‘Next’ button.

The next screen asks how you will connect to your Web server. Select ‘FTP’ from the drop-down menu and click on the ‘Next’ button.

The next screen asks you for three things. First, you will are asked for the name of your FTP server. For this training session, type in ‘ftp.angelfire.com’.

Second, you are asked for the FTP username. For this training session, type in ‘targetedtrainingllc’.

Third, you are asked for the FTP password. For this training session, the password is provided to you in an email. Type in the password and click on the ‘Next’ button.

Adobe Contribute will run a diagnostic to test the connection. The diagnostic will only take a few seconds.

The next screen asks you to provide your full name and email address. Type in the requested information.

Click on the ‘Next’ button.

The next screen displays a summary dialog box containing the information that you just provided.

Click on the ‘Done’ button.

 

After a few seconds, Adobe Contribute opens and displays your home page in the right panel. You cannot edit or update content yet. You must first browse to the page that you want to edit and click on the ‘Edit Page’ button towards the top left of the screen.

For this training, click on the link which corresponds with your name. Then click on the ‘Edit Page’ button.

If you see a ‘Connect’ button, instead of the ‘Edit Page’ button, click ‘Connect’, then ‘Edit Page’.

The ‘Edit Page’ button changes into a ‘Publish’ button. Also, a tool bar appears towards the top of the screen and the Web page will look slightly different.

Note: Contribute will tell you if someone else is editing the Web page that you attempt to work on. You will not be able to update that Web page, until after that person has finished editing it.

If you would like to apply a style to a selection of text, highlight the section you want to stylize, and then click on the dropdown menu, which states ‘Normal’ by default. Then select your style from the available choices in the drop-down menu.

To apply a style to the header above a paragraph, select either ‘Heading 1’ or ‘Heading 2’.

To insert a link to a document or another Web page, click on the ‘Link’ button and select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu.

The ‘Insert Link’ window opens.

If you accidentally select the wrong type of link from the drop-down menu, you can select the correct type of link from the top of the ‘Insert Link’ window.

The ‘Link Text’ does not have to be the same as the name of the document or Web page you are linking to. It could be a description of what the hyperlink links to.

To insert an image, click on the ‘Image’ button and select the appropriate option from the drop-down menu. Then browse to the image that you wish to insert. It is important to keep in mind that you should only insert images which do not violate copyright laws. Clip art is one type of image which can be used without violating such laws.

Right-click on the image that you inserted, move the cursor over ‘Align’, and select the appropriate option.  By aligning the image left or right, the text will wrap around the image. If you do not align the image, the text will start at the bottom of the image.

If you would like to format selection of text, highlight the section you want to format, and click on the ‘B’ (for Bold) or the ‘I’ (for Italics) button.

When you are finished editing and updating, you can either ‘Publish’ or ‘Save for later’.  Clicking the ‘Publish’ button publishes the edited Web page to Web server. Note: Disregard the ‘Send’ button, as this would only be applicable if you had to send your changes to be approved by another person.

If you are unable finish your edits and click on ‘Save for Later’, the page will not be published on the Web. It will instead be saved in the ‘Draft Console’. You can access the same page later by clicking on ‘Draft Console’ located under the View menu on the toolbar. Click on the link for your page in the Draft Console window. Contribute will open the page in editing mode, and you can continue editing the page. Publish the page when you are ready.  Note: A Web page that is saved as a draft is not available for others to view and/or edit.
