The chosen genre for our opening sequence is Thriller. This particular genre is normally aged at older teenagers and young adults 16-21 due to the content of the film being either very violent or scenes that may be disturbing to younger viewers. This is because this age gap being teenagers and young adults would enjoy watching Thriller films and the company's that produce the films would have to put conventions of a Thriller film into the opening sequence to make the audience drawn in to watch the entire film.

Our opening sequence is going to be mainly aimed females due to the female protagonist that is going to be featured in the opening sequence. This does not prevent male viewers watching our opening sequence but we are not targeted male viewers as they are not going to see a male character whilst watching our opening sequence. We have decided to aim our targeted gender at females as the stereotypical girl would be scared. We are not aiming this at girls who become scared quickly as we are aiming this at girls who want to watch Thriller films for the excitement and entertainment.

The older generation may not want to watch Thrillers as they may not be attracted to the idea of scary scenes that are made to make the audience feel at tense. The older generation may not enjoy the more up to date and modern ideas of a Thriller as they may prefer the older films as they may not understand the modern day development on old ideas of Thriller films. Older people may enjoy films such as ‘Titanic’ as Thrillers are not aimed with the older generation in mind.

Younger audiences such as people under the ages of 16 would not tend to watch Thriller films due to the content of the films. The younger audiences may not see an interest in Thriller movies as they may be difficult to understand or may be frightening for younger children to watch. This is one of the main reasons we are broadcasting our target audience as it is to guide people on who should be watching these types of films and who should not be watching these types of films. Younger audiences should be watching films such as ‘Frozen’ or ‘The Lion King’ and not watching Thrillers.
