THE TALE BLAZERS: TWO FRIENDS. ONE VAN. A MILLION STORIES.From the moment we stepped off the plane, there was something special about this place. It’s hard to describe or to put into words. Newfoundland and Labrador is as much of a place as it is a feeling. And nothing could have prepared us for what came next. A docuseries that celebrates the stories and storytellers of Newfoundland and Labrador? Talk about a dream job. For Mirella and I, that’s exactly what it was. We’re professionally trained actors, but we’re also real-life friends and real-life travellers. Much like our audience, we’re seeing the provincefor the very first-time. Imagine that? Showing up to work on the first day and being whisked away on an adventure — visiting national landmarks, hopping in-and-out of boats, exploring streets that are hundreds of years old, and meeting local storytellers. It’s enough to make your head spin! That’s the great thing about The Tale Blazers, it’s completely authentic. From the craggy, coastal shores to the quaint little fishing villages, Newfoundland and Labrador is unforgettable. Kid you not, Mirella’s “wows” are the real deal. When you are surrounded by so much natural beauty, words are hard to come by. But what stood out the most for us, was the people. The people are the friendliest strangers you’ll ever meet. They made us feel right at home. Like we could be ourselves, not actors — you know? And you wouldn’t believe the generosity. Everyone comes together. It’s a real community. Take Chuck Matchim, our pirate whisperer from the Terra Nova episode. Not only did he open his doors to us, he also opened his kitchen. During one of the longer days of filming, he kept his kitchen open late, making sure we all had something delicious to eat. He even fried up the cod we caught on camera! Mirella and I couldn’t have been more grateful. Finally, here’s a little piece of advice: Befriend the locals. It’ll give you a true glimpse of everything this place has to offer. The real Newfoundland and Labrador. Come from away, stay for a while. Then potentially come back again. Just like us. You’ll be glad you did. We hope The Tale Blazers inspires you to plan a visit.
