Principal’s Report

Bike and Road Safety when Riding a Bike to School

Students in Years 3-6 are permitted to ride their bike to school, with

parental consent. However all children must wear a firmly secured

helmet at all times. They must also observe all road rules and also

follow the directions of the crossing attendant which includes walking

their bike across all pedestrian crossings.

Expected standard of behaviour for all parents and visitors to the

school

Our school site is considered Inclosed lands and entry onto the school

at any time is a privilege and not a right of any person, with the

exception of students and staff during school hours or during school

related activities.

If the behaviour of visitors to the school is inappropriate and not in

keeping with the standard of behaviour expected of people who enter

onto this site I, as the Principal and site manager, have authority

under the Inclosed Lands Protection Act 1901 to control a person’s

access. This includes the capacity to impose conditions on or prohibit

entry to the Taree West Public School site.

Behaviour that would be considerate inappropriate includes:

1. actual physical assaults or threatened physical assaults on

students, staff, parents or community members at the school

or during the course of school activities;

2. behaving in a manner in the presence of students, staff,

parents or other visitors to the school that could reasonably

be expected to cause alarm or concern;

3. use of offensive language (i.e. swearing) in the presence of

students; and

4. as a result of abusive or offensive telephone calls, text

messages, websites or emails made to or about staff, or

directed towards staff or the school.

Our School Community values are that of Respect, Responsibility and

Care which as a school we strive for in all of our interactions. I

appreciate your support and ongoing commitment to working together

in the education of your children.

This fortnight our focus rule is keep our hands and feet to ourselves.

With the core value of care.

Our Infants PBL class of the week is 2M.

The Primary PBL class of the week is 5/6L.

Our Infants PBL student of the week is Bella Stephenson KG.

Our Primary PBL student of the week is Caleb Whitehouse 5-6B.

TWPS Parliament

Taree West Public School Parliamentarians were visited by Sarah

Wilkinson, Community Engagement Officer, and Michael Griffith,

Strategic Planner, from Greater Taree City Council.

Sarah and Michael consulted with the students to find out which local

parks they visited and what they enjoyed most about those parks. The

students were asked to design and draw a park which they would like

to visit.

Each of the Parliamentarians was then given $50,000 in play money to

'spend' on the equipment they would like to see included in their local

parks.

This was a great opportunity for our student representatives to have a

say in the decision making processes of our local council.

Swimming

Congratulations to Caleb Whitehouse who represented the zone at

the Regional Swimming Carnival in Maitland last Thursday in the 50m

boys backstroke. Caleb swam a great race but unfortunately did not

make the qualifying time to advance to the next level.

Kindergarten News

Our Kindergarten students have settled in beautifully to school life and

have already experienced wonderful growth and success in their

learning. Students have started to develop their skills in many areas

such as reading, writing and numeracy. To help them to really ‘take-off’

in their reading journey, we are giving each of our Kindergarten

students their own special book to take home and keep. These books

are a little gift from us and we hope that they are enjoyed and read

often. They will be given to students to take home on Thursday

afternoon.

At the start of the year, each Kindergarten student did a Best Start

assessment to help us to identify the knowledge and skills that they

brought to school with them. These results have allowed us to best

cater for students in their learning. We continually track their progress

and provide quality teaching that enables all students to experience

continued growth and success throughout the year. Based on the

results from Best Start, students will receive a parent feedback sheet

this afternoon. This will provide individualised information about

activities that they can do at home to help with their learning progress.

Book Club Loop

Thank you to all of the parents and carers who used the online

ordering system to purchase books from Book Club.

This is a very convenient way for parents to purchase books at

reasonable prices. Online ordering also substantially reduces the

amount of administration that has to occur at the school level. The

school still receives a percentage of the value of all orders generated

and these funds can then be used to purchase more books for our

school library.

All students will receive a new catalogue in the next day or two.

Scholastic has combined all levels of books within the one brochure. If

you would like to purchase a book for your child please go online at

https://mybookclubs.scholastic.com.au/Parent.aspx

•Click on ORDER

•Select you school and your child's class

•Add your child's first name and last initial

•Enter the item number from the Book Club catalogue

•Payments are made online

•All orders are sent directly to the school for submission to Scholastic.

Books will be delivered to your child's classroom.

•There is no need to return paper order forms or money.

All orders for issue 2 close on Monday 21 March. Please feel free to

contact me at school on 65521910 if you would like more information

or some help to submit an order.

Basketball

Our four students representing the Manning Zone at the Hunter PSSA

Basketball Trials in Newcastle last Friday.

Well done to these students on their effort and sportsmanship. Special

mention to Taya Hunter and Annika Scott for their selection into the

Hunter Regional Girls Basketball Team. A massive achievement for

you both. Well done also to Joshua Lohse and Makyah Cusbert! A

fantastic effort!
