To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to apply for the Yearbook staff committee at Borah High School. At your convenience, I’d appreciate the opportunity to discuss the position and my candidacy with you. You can find my resume attached to this letter. I think my personality, capability and organization skills make me a strong candidate for this position.

In my previous experience I worked with people who needed extra help on operating computer systems, showing them the different apps used, and supervised their work 24/7. I am open to new ideas and creative minds. I offered my help to any other requests needed even if it wasn’t in my field of expertise. I developed patience while working my previous job and feel that has helped me come a long way.

I would be overjoyed if I had the opportunity to help your staff of the Yearbook committee. I believe my ability to get a task done and offer any additional help would benefit you in many ways.

I’d love to put my hardworking and determination to work as a yearbook staff member. If I can answer any questions about my application or this letter, please don’t hesitate to contact me at (410) 804-1776 or [email protected].

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Tara Kay Blas

Self–Analytical Evaluation

I got Started in yearbook my senior year of high school. I was choosing my

classes for second semester and had several choices, but the only thing that intrigued me

was yearbook. I thought it’s my senior year why not try something different and if I don’t

like it then it can be used as a learning experience.

Before I joined I thought that yearbook was all about taking pictures and putting

them into a yearbook, for all the other students who attend Borah High School. I realize

now yearbook class has a better and deeper meaning than what I originally thought. I

have learned many things, ranging from learning new tools on a computer, team effort,

struggles and deadlines, and most important responsibility.

Being in yearbook we each were in control of a specific duty, mine was creating

the page, putting the pictures together and creating layouts for other pages in the

yearbook. There were deadlines for every couple pages, which made it difficult if you

were behind in class or your teammates weren’t helping.

This was a valuable course I took, because it will help me use the skills for future

reference. I am more familiar with computers and have learned to get all my ducks in a

row before I start and task.

Reflection #1

I chose this in action picture from Boys Varsity Basketball because to me I believe it was my best picture I took this year. I don’t have many pictures due to the fact that I am not a photographer only a layout designer.

My yearbook teacher needed someone to take pictures of the Boys Varsity Basketball game, which also was the last one for the year. Nobody wanted to take pictures so I decided to take them for her.

It was challenging because in action pictures are hard to take without them coming out blurry every single time. Out of all the pictures I took this there was only a couple that came out excellent. I felt really good because I am not used to taking pictures, so for me to go take pictures and get one for basketball that shows him making a basket while in the air made it even better.

There wasn’t really a process to getting this picture better than it already is. The lighting is great, the stance is great, the clearness is great other than the foot, and the yearbook teacher approved.

What I particularly like about this picture is that it shows how hard they worked to get that basket and in the end they also won the game.

Reflection #2

Out of all the layouts that I created I believe that the one that needs the work is Summer Memories. I learned that it was hard putting together a layout for summer theme when all the colors have to tie in to the theme of the yearbook. On top of that it was even harder to get pictures, because people weren’t in school. We had to call in several people even put out announcements, yet nobody would send in pictures.

All in all the page was turned in late, but was the only layout pushing deadline time. Further improvement could be made upon the picture and the page. If we were able to get more people involved in sending pictures then we would have a wider range to mess with in the makings of the layout.

My overall feeling about this piece would probably be it isn’t my best but at least I finished it for the yearbook. For future reference I would prefer people pick a different idea rather than summer themes, because it makes it harder when you are left with less options.

I didn’t believe the pictures had any significance to them, other than they were useful to filling spaces. When I think of summer memory pictures I think, places you went things you did, things you saw. I don’t believe summer pictures are where a group of girls stand together and take a picture during summer time.

Reflection #3

This picture wasn’t taken by me but i love the in action shot so i used it. I am proud of this picture because I have played soccer for so long throughout my high school and grade school years. It is really hard to take a great in action pic-ture because even when one thing looks good there is always something that doesn’t.

One thing about this pictures composition is that it doesn’t look rehearsed, it shows the natural facial features of someone playing a competitive sport. It’s po-sition is perfect, Borah steals the ball while at the same time it shows the direct focus of the athlete and not somewhere on the page where the eye is drawn to.

Out of all the sports pictures for this years yearbook, I definately believe this is one of the best ones i've seen taken. I think the lighting could be changed on this photo and it could be zoomed in to, but other than that the picture is to the best of it’s ability.

The first picture i specifically liked because I love sports, and soccer is the number one sport in my life.

The second picture I liked because everything looked formal and in place.

The third one seemed really cool to me because it was a perfect in action picture of them taking care of a girl who needed help right away.

Reflection #4

I think I was an amazing asset to this yearbook committee this year. They would be no where without me, and my inspiration. I loved being a part of the yearbook committee. Getting to know new people and interact as a team and make decisions together was a fun learning process.

There were a lot of difficulties getting people to do their part, but for the most part everyone got it done in the end. There were several people who dropped out which also made things more complicated but we still seemed to find a way.

I think overall if I had the choice to do this yearbook class all over again I would. I really liked being able to use the computers and learn new techniques.

Reflection #5

Problems and hardships I faced this year the most was trying to get used to learning and operating on a new computer with a new system and learning all the different tools for indesign. Another problem was try-ing to get everyone to do their group jobs in order for us to put together a yearbook for the end of the year.

I learned that when i am put in these types of situ-ations i get very irritated and impatient, and tend to want to take over and do it my way in order to finish the project and make me feel better.

I feel that working as a team to get something done will never be easy, there will always be problems that arise. I also learned that working as a team helps the working environment become more lively and not
