GoalsGet great “still motion” shots of hummingbirds.

Get pictures of their wings extended.

Action shots-I used ISO100 and the Sports setting. -I toggled the exposure here and there.

TechniquesI did not like the results I was getting with the Sports setting, so I went back to “P” mode and waited for the birds to land on branches to take the pictures.

I still had a hard time focusing on the bird, and not the background.

And other times the focus was on the bird, but not quite the picture I was looking for.

More FocusI decided to keep the camera focused on or near the branch so that the quick instance that a bird landed on it, I could refocus quickly and get my shot.

More PracticeI continued my successful tactics of pre-focusing and waiting for my subject to fall into my frame. I caught an interesting show of aggression between a few hummingbirds. I was excited to capture this. Everyone who was around the hummingbirds witnessed the aggression between them all.
