  • I decided to make a simple circuit by sawing it onto a beanie hat. As it is the first time I attempt into making a wearable circuit.

  • The concept behind my beanie with an attached LED light is that due to the days getting shorter, it is harder to see after 5 pm, especially due to the beautiful weather Toronto has. Beanies are always worn, it has become such a huge fashion statement in this generation, so I thought why not base my project on that.

  • The beanie would include, an LED light along with a battery, resistor and conductive tape. My initial plan was to add on a switch that would light up the LED once the beanie is placed on the individuals head. Although due to the lack of knowledge I hold in this area, the LED light only works once the battery is placed in. I used a beanie that is 100% wool which was quite challenging to sew onto but a learning experience.

  • First I sewed on the battery holder on its positive side on my beanie Second I added in the resistor,(the first time I did that I connected the negative end with the positive end of the battery holder which resulted in a short circuit.

  • Third I attached the LED light on the opposite end of the hat so it can be physically appealing, without the whole circuit being seen. Finally, I used a new piece of conductive tape to close up the circuit, with the a successful LED being lite up.

  • Placement Is being placed on an individuals head. Form Language The LED beanie would take the shape of the head of the individual Human movement The fabric and the way the circuit is constructed allows the circuit to be safe from breaking the circuit, although a cloth should be sewed on in order to fully protect the circuit Proxemics The beanie fits onto the individuals head, making it easy in the users space Sizing The beanie would be available in different sizes according to the individuals head size

  • Attachment The individual would be able to place it directly on their head Containment The circuit is placed on the inside of the Beanie while the LED light is placed on the outer part. Weight The beanie is very light weighted, even after a circuit has been attached to it Accessibility The LED is controlled from the inner part of the beanie Sensory The LED beanie allows other individuals to be seen and spotted in the dark or in bad weather.

  • Thermal The beanie is wool fabric which allows one to wear it during the winter which would also keep them warm Aesthetics The form of the beanie is plain which fits around the individuals head which is a very basic color that allows it to be physically appealing Long- term use The beanie would be long term if only a cloth was sewed on around the circuit on the inside to avoid any contact with water that would not only break the circuit but could be harmful to the individual wearing it.
