Troublesome Cargoes

Just to mention a few cargoes with specific issues

EDC Swell epoxies, vapor space risk in zinc and SS

Ethanol Mainly end user concern – odor test

Methanol Extreme solvent, shrinkage in epoxy coatings

Styrene Retention

Di-chloropropene HCl in vapor space, zinc & SS high risk

Other chlorinated solvents HCl in vapor space, zinc & SS risk

Palm Fatty Acid Destillate Crude varying amounts of inorganic/organic acids

Crude edible oils Free fatty acid content

Vinyl Acetate Monomer Absorbes and formes acetic acid inside coating

Other acetates Risk depending aliphatic size

Latex Hard to clean, amoniak

Many more ….. It is very complex …. To know what each

commodity is and what it does to a lining, including stainless steel is critical

Leverage analogous colors from the supporting

color palette to create dynamic, harmonious charts.

Use a 1pt white line between color segments.

Note: In charts and graphs that include a

large number of data points, it is

permissible to mix color families to ensure

adequate contrast between data segments.

Color selections may differ depending

on whether the background is white or

dark blue.

Chevron color palette charts and graphs

Adapt a default chart to fit our style

Note: Follow these instructions for all chart types.

3. Change the doughnut hole size

to 33% and add a 1pt white rule

to each segment.

1. Create a default chart. 2. Change the chart color style

to “flat.”

4. Adjust the segment colors to

leverage analogous colors from

the supporting color palette.

Do not use tints.

Note: In charts and graphs

that include a large number

of data points, it is permissible

to mix color families to ensure

adequate contrast between

data segments. Color selections

may differ depending on

whether the background is

white or dark blue.

Use of animation

• Only use animation where it is integral to the content (e.g., sliding from one point

or section in a timeline to the next)

• Keep it simple (no “fancy” effects)

• In most instances, it is best to avoid more visually active animations.

Copying contents from older presentations

• When incorporating slides from prior presentations, it is important to note that

some modifications will be necessary in order for these slides to be visually

consistent with the new template.

• Specifically, you may need to check the formatting of the fonts, colors and

position of the elements on the slides.

• The following slides contain a few tips that will help you with this conversion

process.

Page 21: Tank coatings and...Heading in white #.# in light color 1Q15 earnings per diluted share $0.00 ROCE (trailing 12 months thru 3/31/2015) 0.0% Debt ratio (as of 3/31/2015) 00.0% Dividends

20© 2015 Chevron Corporation

Copying contents from older presentations

Tip 1: While you can expect varying results when bringing old slides into the new

template, you’ll typically need to format the text (confirming the typeface, size and

color, for example). You can do this on the mini toolbar, which appears

automatically when you select text.

Page 22: Tank coatings and...Heading in white #.# in light color 1Q15 earnings per diluted share $0.00 ROCE (trailing 12 months thru 3/31/2015) 0.0% Debt ratio (as of 3/31/2015) 00.0% Dividends

21© 2015 Chevron Corporation

Copying and pasting text within text boxes Do not copy entire text boxes

Copying contents from older presentations

Tip 2: It usually works best to copy the elements from a prior slide and paste them

into a new slide.

From the older slide, select the desired text and/or other imagery, and copy.

Within the new template, paste the copied elements. Although you can also copy

and paste entire text boxes, it usually works best to copy and paste the text from

within text boxes.

Page 23: Tank coatings and...Heading in white #.# in light color 1Q15 earnings per diluted share $0.00 ROCE (trailing 12 months thru 3/31/2015) 0.0% Debt ratio (as of 3/31/2015) 00.0% Dividends

22© 2015 Chevron Corporation

Tip 3: If you copy and paste an entire slide from an older presentation (rather

than copying and pasting the individual elements), it is recommended that you

click Use Destination Theme.

On the older presentation, select a slide and Copy it. In the destination

presentation, Paste the slide where you want it to be.

1. Click the Paste Options button (near the pasted slides)

2. Click Use Destination Theme

Copying contents from older presentations

Tip 4: Moving slides from an old presentation into the new template can also be

done in the Slide Sorter view. Note that moving slides in this manner can produce

inconsistent results.

The two areas from which you can select Slide Sorter are shown below.

Page 25: Tank coatings and...Heading in white #.# in light color 1Q15 earnings per diluted share $0.00 ROCE (trailing 12 months thru 3/31/2015) 0.0% Debt ratio (as of 3/31/2015) 00.0% Dividends

Tip 5: Text can also be copied and pasted from other programs, such as Microsoft

Word. Here, too, be sure to double-check the formatting since imported text will

sometimes maintain its formatting from the source application.

(See Tip 1 for an example of checking the formatting.)

Tip 6: Avoid using formatting from prior slides that are inconsistent with our brand

standards.

Incorrect formatting:

Verdana font, drop shadow and

incorrect bullet

Correct formatting:

Arial font, no drop shadow and

correct bullet

Chemical Tanker Market

• Growth in seaborne trade resulted in larger ships meaning more stress

• Increased carriage of methanol in coated tanks

• Significantly more activity • in refurbishment

Technology Options

• Phenolic Epoxy (Epoxy Novolac)• Broadest chemical carriage capabilities• - Absorbs and retains cargoes• - Cleaning headache• - Contamination risk• - Recovery time and cycling restrictions

• Zinc Silicate• Excellent resistance to pure chemicals• - Limited by range of pH• - Very rough surface

• Stainless Steel• Does not absorb or retain cargoes• Expensive and uneconomical for many trades
