THE Alpine Council bossrefutes union claims it hasnot been open to discussionsabout the transition of com-munity care services.

Last month at a councilmeeting, it was decidedthe service would be mar-ket-tested before funding re-sponsibilities changed fromthe Victorian government tothe commonwealth.

Council's contractwith thestate finishes on June 30 andAlpine chief executive DaveBarry said a new providerwas likely to be announcedinMay.

He said the state woulddetermine what new provid-er would take over.

“Like all other transfersof this nature, similar to thechange that occurred inWodonga, you would hopethe vastmajority of our hard-working and highly skilledstaff will be picked up by thenew provider,” he said.

Australian Services Unionorganiser Emma Bagg saidshe had tried to secure ameeting with the local gov-ernment several times.

“Their words don't match-up to their behaviour, wehaven't officially been toldanything,” she said.

Mr Barry said submissionsfrom employee representa-tives about the changes hadbeen extended for the unionbut were not acted on.
