OBJECTIVESTo document the language, arts , culture

and festivities of an indigenous group in the Tan-awan Village.

Study and document the different aspects of Balsa Trade.

Document indigenous medical practices and indigenous food and its preparation.

To develop a research-based cultural show entitled “Teatro balsa”.

To integrate research findings in the curriculum and publish research results for

dissemination and utilization.

Barter Trade/Economics and Agricultural Practices.

To study the different facets of barter trade from production of agricultural crops and its sustainability, transportation of products from farms to the barter trade area.

To know the unwritten rules in barter trading and its economic implications.

Tan-awan Dances and Folksongs Associated with Rituals, Ceremonies, Beliefs and Practices.

To know what dances they have in Barangay Tan-awan and if they are associated with their rituals, ceremonies, beliefs and practices.

To determine why and how are these dances performed. What are the significance of the steps and movements?

To know what are the different musical instruments used as accompaniment to the different dances associated with rituals, ceremonies, beliefs and practices and how are they being played.

Legends and Folklore and Local Dialects.

To document the legends, folklores and local dialects as they were handed down from generation to generation.

A retrieval of legends and folklores to preserve it for the succeeding generations.

Local food preparation and medicinal practices.

To document the preparation and ingredients of local foods especially those that are considered as specialty in the area and those prepared on special occasions.

To document the medicinal practices of the village including the materials being used, its preparation and application .

Expected Outcome:

•Research will be able to document the various traditional/indigenous knowledge and practices of the community.

•Research findings will be utilized in the local production of “Teatro Balsa”.

•A workshop will be conducted on how to integrate research findings in the curriculum. •Publish research findings for dissemination and utilization.
