Loneliness of the elderly people –Senior-Stop relieves loneliness and depression

•Finland’s Slot Machine Association (RAY) is financially supporting many of our development work

•At Senior Stop we offer discussion groups for elderly people (over 60 years)

•Groups are intended for elderly people with depression, melancholy, loneliness, different crises of life situations etc.

Page 11: Tampere City Mission

•Groups are guided by our professional Senior Stop workers

•Clients can have support from each other at the group

•Clients can also meet our workers in private

•We have some volunteers (like health care students) who make home visits to our elderly clients

•At Senior Stop we also want to take part of the public discussion about elderly people’s loneliness in Finland

Page 12: Tampere City Mission

•Senior Stop -activity prevents repeated doctor and emergency visits

•It supports elderly people’s living on their own homes

•It fortifies client’s own social network

•It increases experience of community and thereby relieves loneliness and depression

•Often the group members see each other after the group has ended and they become friends

Page 13: Tampere City Mission

•At each Senior Stop group there can be 6 to 8 persons

•Groups get together once every week, 1,5 hours per meeting

•Groups meet 16, 24 or 36 times (length of 4, 6 or 9 months)

•Groups are mainly for both men and women, if needed we can establish groups for example only for men, only over 80 years old and so on.
