Minnesota United ended the Ottawa Fury’s unbeaten streak on Saturday night with a 2-1 road win. Christian Ramirez opened the scoring early after stealing the ball off a defender’s foot and scoring on a breakaway. United stood strong against a barrage of pressure from Ottawa, but finally conceded in the second half. Minnesota pushed by trying to steal back two points from the Fury, who were content with the draw. A late set piece just outside Ottawa’s penalty area set up a golden opportunity for the Loons with seconds left in the match. Daniel Mendes tucked home the free kick to secure the match.

United Face Struggling Rowdies on the Road A big win last weekend gives Minnesota United mo-mentum as it travels to take on the Tampa Bay Row-dies. The Rowdies have had a difficult time finding ways to win, having only taken a full three points once in the past seven matches. A less than stellar Fall Season has the Rowdies low in the standings, but their strong Spring has them 4th in the Combined ta-ble, just behind Minnesota. A scoreless draw was the result in the last meeting between these teams, but both have found many ways to score.

DISCIPLINARY REPORT
The Rowdies were the first professional sports franchise in the area and remain one of the most recognizable and well-loved brands in soccer. Originally established in 1975, the team won the NASL Soccer Bowl championship in its inaugural year.
In 2008, a group of investors announced the purchase of rights to a profession-al soccer franchise and the newly established team began play in 2010 as FC Tampa Bay. In 2012, the team rebranded as the Tampa Bay Rowdies and won the NASL Soccer Bowl Championship after defeating Minnesota in a shootout.
After a disappointing 2014 season, the Rowdies have rebuilt their roster to pre-pare for 2015. They brought in a new coach and many new players with NASL experience in rapid succession. Tampa Bay will be hoping their investment will pay off in the 2015 season.

ABOUT THE NORTH AMERICAN SOCCER LEAGUE
The North American Soccer League (NASL) is a professional soccer league with eleven teams in the United States and Canada. It is sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer) as the Division II league in the American league system. Its headquarters are in New York City.
The league is named for the original North American Soccer League. The modern NASL was founded in 2009, and began play in 2011 following a 2010 season that saw NASL and USL teams play in a combined temporary Division II league.
The NASL uses a split-season schedule running from April to early November, with a four-week break in July. The spring and fall champions, along with the two teams with best combined records, meet in a four-team single elimination tournament known as The Championship. The winner of the final claims the Soccer Bowl at the end of the season.

Minnesota United finished the Spring Season with a 3-5-2 record, missing out on its second Spring Championship by six points. Minnesota will need to win the Fall Season or have one of top two records in the league, excluding the season champions, to qualify for the playoffs.
The NASL uses split-season format, first implemented in 2013, with separate Spring and Fall seasons. The winners of the Spring and Fall seasons along with two remaining teams with the best overall record will play in The Championship, the league’s four-team playoff. In the event the same team wins both the Spring and Fall championships, the top three teams with the best overall records will join them in The Championship.
