CHURCHILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Student Drop-Off/Pick-up Procedures

Elementary School begins promptly at 8:45 AM with buses dropping

students off by 8:30 AM each morning. All District 308 elementary schools

will be open at 8:15 AM for parents who need to drop-off their children early.

Grades 1-5 students will be in attendance from 8:45 AM - 3:35 PM.

Kindergarten students will be in attendance from 8:45 AM – 11:20 AM. The

door to the left of the main entrance, Door #12, will open at 8:15 AM for those

students who will be arriving to school early. Parents will need to park in a

designated parking space in the front of the building and walk their child(ren) to

Door #12. We will then follow our normal arrival procedures beginning at 8:30

AM.

Beginning at 8:30 AM, car riders and walkers enter the building through Door # 2,

located on the west side of the building.

Enter the school drive on Jessamine Drive, stopping at the crosswalk to safely allow parents

and children to cross. Follow Jessamine around in front of Plank Jr. High and pull up behind

the car in front of you.

Wait until Churchill staff directs vehicles to pull up along the curb. Drop off only at the front

curbside. Please time your morning arrival to accommodate our safety rules, and to have your

child in school on time.

When exiting Churchill by car, you will only be allowed to go straight onto Jessamine or turn

left onto Secretariat. You will not be able to turn right onto Secretariat.

Parents who wish to park in the lot and walk their children to the entrance may do so. Please

use the cross walk only and never allow your child to walk across the lot unescorted.

Students who ride the bus will exit the bus on the east side of the building and enter through

Door #4. Students may not be dropped off or picked up by car in the bus area located at

the back of the building.

At dismissal time, cars will line up at the curb as in the morning. Have your child enter on the

passenger side of your vehicle. Only pull out of line when the person directing traffic signals

you to do so.

If you park your car in the lot at dismissal time, please walk to Door # 10, on the playground

side of the school building, to meet your child. Students are NOT permitted to walk themselves

to your car. Use the designated crosswalk to return to your vehicle in the parking lot.

Please remember that Illinois state law prohibits the use of cell phones while

driving in a school zone.

Dear Mustang Families,

The Churchill Home and School Executive Board members would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year. We hope you had a wonderful summer and are looking forward to an exciting new year filled with fun events for everyone.

Our Executive Board is committed to making a difference in the education, health and safety of all our children. We partner with parents, teachers, staff and the community on many levels to bring both fun and educational programs, events and opportunities to the children of Churchill Elementary. Your contribution, whether it be your time, knowledge or resources makes a difference. We personally invite you to become an involved member of the Churchill Home and School Association.

Please join us on Monday, August 15th from 5:00-7:00pm for our annual Back to School Bash (flyer attached). This event is being held in conjunction with the Churchill Elementary Preview Night. During Preview Night, the HSA will be available to greet Churchill families and provide you with some information on how you can help make this school year amazing for the students and staff. You will also have an opportunity to order Mustang Grams to be delivered to your child on the first day of school.

MEMBERSHIP: The membership fee for the 2016-2017 school year is $5.00. Membership will give you the opportunity to participate in any number of ways, whether it be attending monthly meetings, chairing a committee, volunteering for a committee, or coordinating family fun events. All Members will receive a FREE Churchill Elementary Directory. Funds collected from our membership drive help support our overall budget which provides programs and events that directly benefit our children and families throughout the school year. We encourage all Churchill families to help support our school! If you choose not to join the Home and School Association but would like a Directory, there is a fee of $2.00. Membership registration will occur ONLINE this year. A direct link will be shared in the coming weeks with all Churchill Elementary families. A paper form will be available in the Office for those who are unable to register online.

YEARBOOK: This year we will be placing all yearbook orders online. Balfour will provide us with a Marketplace where orders for yearbooks and accessories can be placed until January of 2017. More detailed information will be provided to all Churchill Families in the coming weeks. On behalf of the Home & School Association, all 5th grade students will receive a yearbook as a gift and they will be distributed at the 5th grade party in May.

ROOM PARTIES: Room party sign up sheets will be located in each individual classroom on Preview Night and at Curriculum Night. Sign up for all three holiday parties will be available at this time. These sheets will reflect your availability and are not a guarantee you are granted attendance at these events. We will do our best to keep things fair and get the party schedule out in a timely manner so planning can commence.

MUSTANG GRAMS: Mustang Grams will be available to purchase at Preview Night and will be delivered to your child’s classroom on the first day of school. Mustang Grams typically range from $1.00-$2.00, and are delivered to your child’s classroom with an encouraging note from parents/guardians/family/friends. Order forms will be distributed monthly for the Mustang Gram program. All Mustang Money collected over the school year helps us fund our Kerry Anne Engdahl Scholarship.

Page 12: Tammie Harmon Casey O’Connell · 2016-2017 CHURCHILL STAFF & ROOM ASSIGNMENTS Principal: Mrs. Tammie Harmon x-3810 Assistant Principal: Mr. Casey O'Connell x-3811 Principal's Secretary:

COMMITTEE SIGN UP: In order to give families time to meet their students’ teachers, tour the school and enjoy the Back to School Bash, committee sign up will take place online. Sign Ups will be done the last week of August and the first two weeks in September. Volunteers are the key to our success.

HAY…YOU HAVE BEEN MUSTANGED: Over recent years flamingo flocking fundraisers have become a common addition to fundraising efforts for local youth, charity and community groups. Churchill Elementary HSA is going to try this with our own unique spin. We have purchased a “Mustang” (or two) to help us start a similar program to those pink flamingos you may have seen in our neighborhoods.

For a $25 donation to the Churchill Home and School your friends or family members can have their front yards “Mustanged”. Of that $25.00 donation, $5 will go to the HSA to help keep the program running and the other $20 will be placed in our H.O.O.F. (Helping Out Our Families) fund. This program has provided assistance to Churchill Families in need since its inception.

In exchange for your donation, a friend or neighbor can be “Mustanged” for any special occasion, whether it be a birthday, an anniversary or a congratulations on a job well done. A mustang and a sign will be placed in the yard of the recipient for a period of 24 hours. Please contact Jen Bocik @ [email protected] with any questions or to book the mustang. We would love to see this program kick off before the beginning of the school year!

Thank you for your continued support,

Churchill Elementary Executive Board
