GREG Dennis is so determined to savethe family dairy farm his grandfather
started 80 years ago that he is ready totake on the Goliaths of the milk industry. This modern day David is set to
produce, bottle and distribute his ownbrand of milk, Scenic Rim 4Real Milk, indefiance of the dairy industry’s mightymulti-national giants.Greg’s range of milk products is due on
the shelves on May 1 and it is understoodthat Tamborine Mountain’s new Supa IGAwill stock his milk.He is one of a growing band of
Australian dairy farmers who arecasualties of the much publicisedsupermarket milk wars between Coles andWoolworths.A fourth generation farmer who owns
and runs Scenic Rim Robotic Dairy atTamrookum, south of Beaudesert, Gregsaid he recently rejected a two-yearrenewal contract from his processor,French-owned Parmalat, to go out on hisown because he realised he could no
longer survive financially on the price itwas offering. While details of his plan are still being
finalised, Greg aims to sell a range of milkproducts throughout South EastQueensland. They will even include a750ml bottle of milk in glass - harkingback to the halcyon days when milk wasdelivered to people’s homes.Greg said that prior to his latest venture
he had tried everything to save the farmthat his grandfather, Hal, started in 1936.His four milking sheds represent a
unique snapshot of dairy farming over thepast 80 years and have proved a popularattraction since he opened his dairy to tourgroups last year to supplement his income.“We also re-invested in the farm and
made changes that we were confidentwould result in efficiencies, but ourreward was to be offered a 25 per cent cutto our farm gate milk price,” he said.“It is a system that can only be
described as dysfunctional.Story continues page 9
David and Goliath milk battle begins in Scenic Rim
Greg Dennis and his herd of 250 cows will take the fight up to the milk processing giants throughthe new Scenic Rim 4Real Milk brand of products.

Wild ride down the hill ends in truck spill
THREE workmates from a tree lopping firm were lucky to escape serious injury onFriday afternoon, after a wild ride in their out-of-control truck towing a woodchipper
ended in a rollover on a notorious bend of the Tamborine-Oxenford Road. The driver was able to get out of the truck but the Tamborine Mountain Fire Brigade
had to cut the two passengers from the wreck at the intersection of Elevation Drive afterthe vehicle lost its brakes coming down the Mountain at 2.30pm and its gearboxexploded. All three were taken to Gold Coast Hospital for observation.
Fallen tree causes power loss, traffic chaos
Atree which fell against electricity lines and toppled a power pole caused traffic chaoson one of Tamborine Mountain’s busiest streets recently.
There were lengthy delays during the Friday afternoon pick-up at Tamborine MountainState School, with traffic banked bank along Curtis Road as a section of Long Road hadto be blocked off until Energex crews could repair the downed lines. The incident occurred at 2.45pm. However, it could have been more than simply
inconvenient if it had happened after 3pm when that same stretch of Long Road is usuallypacked with parents and students at the end of the school day.

HEmay only be small, but Digger thenine-week-old kelpie puppy has
earned himself a reputation as a bigmischief maker after his escapade atTamborine Mountain’s temporary greenwaste dump last week.Digger had gone along for the ride with
his owner, John Logan, to the Long Roadfacility to drop off some garden waste. When John stepped out of his ute with
the engine running and closed his door,Digger leapt up, activating the centrallocking mechanism. With the windowswound up, the little dog was trapped in thecar with the engine running.Fortunately, Giget Taylor, who was
operating the excavator at the site, wasable to put in an emergency call to theRACQ and Digger was free in minutes, none the worse for his experience.John and Digger returned later in the day
to thank Giget and tip master Paul Sproule– John with a six-pack and Digger with abig wet kiss on the cheek for Giget.Tailpiece: The incident with Digger
happened on the last day of Giget’scontract at the waste facility and she isnow looking for work. She has tickets tooperate a range of heavy and lightmachinery from one tonne to 45 tonnes, but says her favourite piece of equipmentis the digger.
Digger causes commotion at green waste dump
All’s well that ends well for (from left) John Logan, Digger the nine-week-old kelpie, contractorGiget Taylor and tip master Paul Sproule at the temporary green waste facility on Long Road.

MANTA Rays are thelargest species of ray,
and one of the largest livingfish. The biggest specimenshave a wingspan of over sevenmetres and can weigh over1300 kilos. They have huge triangular
pectoral fins which areflapped like wings to move through thewater. Although incredibly agile, and able toperform acrobatic breaches, flips andsomersaults above the ocean surface, mantasare unable to swim backwards. To breathethey must also move constantly to keepwater circulating in their five pairs of gillslits. These characteristics make themvulnerable to entanglement and suffocation.Like whale sharks, manta rays are filter
feeders that consume large quantities ofminute creatures such as zooplankton, krill, shrimp and planktonic crabs. To feed, theyopen their large triangular mouths and usetheir horn-like cephalic fins to channel foodinto them. They have 300 rows of very smallteeth on their lower jaws and do not have abarb on their tail. The manta ray eggs develop in the
female’s oviduct and the embryos feed firston the egg yolk. When they hatch within themother they feed on milky secretions. After12-13 months, the pups (usually one or two)are expelled from the oviduct. They aresmall versions of mature manta rays and donot receive any parental care. Because oftheir long lives and low reproduction ratemanta populations are vulnerable.Mantas are pelagic, they are found alone
or in groups swimming in temperate, subtropical and tropical waters, they arebelieved to migrate great distances and havebeen recorded diving to depths of 500
metres. Much of their liferemains a mystery. In the past, mantas were
described as devil fish due toignorance and superstitionthat they resembled bats, another species which stillsuffers from humanignorance and superstition. In fact, mantas have the
highest brain to body ratio of all the sharksand rays. Researchers are finding that theyare gentle, curious, intelligent creatures thatseem to recognise individual divers, can betaught to roll over by hand signals and havereportedly lifted divers in trouble to thesurface. Diving and snorkeling with mantasis growing in popularity around the world.Close supervision is required in theseincreasingly crowded sites since touching amanta removes their slime coating whichmakes them vulnerable to infections andlesions.Like all marine species, mantas face the
danger of pollution, over fishing andmicroplastic but they now have anotherthreat to contend with. There is a growingmarket for manta gill rakers in Chinesemedicine. Its spruikers claim that it can cureailments from chickenpox to cancer, and itsincreasingly affluent yet obviously ill-informed customers believe this nonsenseand their demand is killing huge numbers ofmantas all over the world. Fortunately the Australian Government
has increased protection for manta rays inour waters, but regrettably globally theirnumbers are declining dramatically.Birdwalk 20/3/13 – Beechmont/Binna BurraBushwalk 23/3/13 – Warrie Circuit

After waking at dawn and walkingtentatively through the Kruger, our bush rangersuddenly crouched, indicated for us to be veryquiet and to follow his eyes. Through the shrub wecould see a pride of lion licking their chops andstretching out in the early morning sunshine.Initially terrified, we soon relaxed into theexperience as the ranger explained that the lionhad already feasted and were now pretty muchnon-threatening. After breakfast we took a 4WDsafari to gaze at elephant, impala, zebra, giraffeand we even spotted a leopard up a tree with itskill. All of this is extraordinary.
Leaving the Kruger behind, we journeyed toone of the world’s most beautiful cities. Capetownis dramatically located between the soaring cliffsof Table Mountain and the blue Southern Ocean. This sophisticated city is the gateway to theWinelands of Stellenbosch and the wild end of theworld at the Cape where the Indian and AtlanticOceans meet.
In some ways South Africa has a feel ofAustralia about it so we almost feel at home. Thelocals are welcoming and friendly, the landscapesomewhat familiar however the intrigue of theexotic is never far from the surface.
I have had a few clients take this trip in recentyears and they have all returned delighted withwhat they have experienced and singing itspraises as value for money. At $3499 per personincluding airfares this is one of the best deals Ihave ever seen to Southern Africa.

STORM DEBRIS GREEN WASTECouncil is coming to the end of the pickingup of storm debris green waste fromfootpaths, roadways and road reserves. I wantto acknowledge again the effort put in bythose organising and conducting the pick up.It has been a big task to implement. GREEN WASTE SITEThe Knoll Road green waste site has beenclosed for a few weeks now and is likely tobe so for a while yet. People are also commenting on how well thetemporary site at Long Road is working and why don’t werelocate the green site permanently to Long Road. Whilst Iacknowledge the money spent on upgrading the Knoll Road site, the majority of that money was spent on the general waste areaand that has to stay where it is. However, the green waste site isanother matter. At the Council meeting on 26 February, I put amotion that Council produce a cost benefit analysis report onmoving the green waste site to Long Road permanently.Unfortunately, the motion was defeated by 5 votes to 2. I believethat the information that would have been provided, would haveassisted Council in making an informed decision.COMMERCIAL WATER EXTRACTIONThe impact of commercial water extraction, as opposed to waterextraction as a Minor Public Utility, is being felt by thecommunity. I put a motion to the Council meeting on 26 Februarythat Council produce a report on what Council could do to reducethe impact of this industry. My motion was amended 5 votes to 2.The amended motion resolved to seek the State’s advice on therole, if any, local government has in the control of water extractionfor commercial use. Although I was happy to consult with theState Government as well, I felt that Council should also conductits own review. The amended motion was passed 5 votes to 2. TELECOMMUNICATIONS TOWERCouncil has received an application for the construction of atelecommunications facility at 16-24 Witches Chase. Details canbe viewed on the Council’s web site at PD Online and thereference number is MC.Bd213/00005. The application is impactassessable, meaning that the community will have an opportunityto provide comment. The only thing I would like to state at thistime is that the Rural Fire Brigade would benefit from improvedcommunications in the area of Forest Park.REPORTING OF FAULTS OR REQUESTSI reported a few weeks ago on the process for reporting of faults orrequests. Due to community input, I would like to provide furtheradvice. The best options are to:• Visit the library and speak to the Customer Service Officer or• Contact me and I will report it for you.The other option is to:• Phone Council on 07 5540 5111 and you will be put through toa Council Officer.
If you choose the latter option, please ensure that you ask for areference number. If you have not received any feed back within areasonable time frame, you can contact Council quoting thereference number.COMMUNITY FORUMCr Nadia O’Carroll and I will hold the next Community Forum onSunday 17 March at 2pm in the Vonda Youngman Community Centre. CONSULTATIONThe next consultation in the library will be on Monday 18 March,4pm – 5.30pm. I am also available for one on one meetings atyour convenience. For furtherinformation http://www.nrm.gov.auGREEN WASTE & COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS REPORTAt the Council meeting on 26 February, I seconded a motionraised by Cr Waistell that Council produce a cost benefit analysisreport on moving the green waste site to Long Road permanently. The motion was defeated by five votes to two. The site at LongRoad is already used as a temporary green waste site and I believethat this report would have provided useful information about itsuse as a contingency site, regardless of whether the results of theanalysis precluded or supported the permanent relocation of thegreen waste site. This was a request for information not a decision– more information is always beneficial.COMMERCIAL WATER EXTRACTION REPORTAt the Council meeting on 26 February Cr I seconded a motionraised by Cr Waistell that Council produce a report on whatCouncil could do to reduce the impact of this industry. The motionwas amended five votes to two, this amended motion resolved toseek the State’s advice on the role, if any, local government has inthe control of water extraction for commercial use. It passed fivevotes to two. Whatever the jurisdiction over water resources, council does have jurisdiction over planning, conditions, compliance and the imposition of appropriate rates and charges. The community expectation is that these aspects should beaddressed. Once again this was a request for information not adecision - more information is always beneficial.ROADS: Repair of damaged roads continues. Furtherinformation about roads can be obtained from the Department ofMain Roads website www.tmr.qld.gov.au telephone 131940.COMMUNITY FORUMCr Nigel Waistell and I are holding the next Community Forumon Sunday 17 March at 2pm in the Vonda Youngman CommunityCentre.

BLUE LIGHT DISCO PRIZESOur first blue light disco for the year is
on this Friday (15 March) starting 6.30pmand we are all looking forward to anotherfun night with the kids at the VondaYoungman Centre. We are always on thelookout for cool and interesting prizes andwould appreciate any support out there inthe community with give-aways for thekids as we enjoy breaking the night up withdance contests and the like – so please, anyhelp is appreciated! Give us a call or dropin at the station through the week would bewonderful.TMSS DROP OFF (THREE MINUTESECTION)Regardless of the three minutes, do not
leave your vehicle unattended in the dropoff zone at the school lest ye be issued thestandard $40 parking ticket. I can hear allthe groans now from readers going ‘oh no,not the parking rant again...?” Parents andcarers please:• Proceed to the front of the line of dropoff bays just like a taxi rank.
• Quickly and safely jettison your charges.• Smile, wave goodbye and move on sothe motorist patiently indicating theirintention to do the same can also do so.
• Be happy at how simple it can be ifeveryone does the right thing!Alas, experience shows that some noodle
will go and park in the middle bay for 20minutes and stuff the whole process up, butat least we’re trying to get the message outthere. Be warned for the umpteenth time:we never run out of ticket books.10 SPEEDING TICKETS ISSUED Last Thursday North Tamborine Police
conducted a minor traffic operation in a bidto address the ongoing complaints wereceive re speeding on our main roads:Tamborine- Oxenford, Macdonnell, MainWestern, Long and Henri Robert. The roadconditions were wet, drizzly and ordinaryto say the least but still 10 speeding ticketswere issued with the highest speed that of a
young female driver at 99 in a 60 zonewhich is bordering on dangerous operation. On the positive side, out of 100 RBTs nodrink-drivers were detected and overall thevast majority of our motorists are fantasticin this regard.WILD TMBORINE HALL PARTYA quick comment on the ‘Facebook
party’ that occurred at the TamborineMemorial Hall a few weeks ago: this is astark reminder to parents and carers of theimportance of checking you children’sactivities at all times. This could bedescribed as nothing more than adisgraceful act by the organisers whobasically promote their parties onFacebook and other social media to createa huge event at which drugs, alcohol, andassaults occur, and where young girls areexposed to the predatory behaviour ofolder males. My blood boils as policeinvestigations continue but the message Iwish to make clear is: CHECK YOURCHILD’S PLANS – too often we locateunderage kids on the streets or at partieswhen their parents believe they areelsewhere. Surely it’s not that difficult toensure the safety of our kids.SCAM COLLECTORSA few rumours and comments have been
trickling back to us re fraudulent activitiesby door knockers on and aroundTamborine Mountain. If at any time youhave someone come to your door askingfor a donation, they must be registered andcarry with them identification of thecharity for which they are collecting. There aren’t too many I am aware of otherthan Red Cross and the Salvation Armyaround the Mountain. Again, check theirID and if when challenged you smell a rat, please advise police and record anyregistration number of vehicles to assistpolice in following up possible fraudulentacts. At the very least, a receipt must beprovided for any donation.Stay safe and be kind to each other.

Samuel’s passing unites a community in grief
FLAGS have been flown at half mastand there have been many heavy hearts
in the Tamborine Mountain communityfollowing the passing last week of SamuelPardoe-Matthews only days before hisninth birthday.Samuel’s courageous 13-month battle
with bone cancer ended on Tuesday nightwhen he passed away peacefully in hisown bed at his North Tamborine home inthe loving embrace of his parents, Kris andJackie. He leaves behind brothers James and
Tommy and hundreds of people in thecommunity whose hearts he touchedduring his all-too-short life.Samuel was a student at Tamborine
Mountain State School before his illnesswas diagnosed in February last year and, ina letter to the school community last week, principal Jason Smith remembered him as a‘most delightful and intelligent young man’.“Sammy’s vibrant personality and caring
nature will be missed but never forgotten,”said Mr Smith.“As a school community, we have
followed his courageous battle with bonecancer. We have celebrated the minitriumphs and milestones Sammy reached
and comforted each other in those times ofdespair.“On behalf of Tamborine Mountain State
School staff and students, I would like tosend our condolences to Sammy’s veryloving and equally courageous family,Kris, Jackie, James and Tommy.”Samuel’s mother, Jackie, thanked Mr
Smith and the entire school community fortheir kindness and support during hisillness.Only days before Samuel passed away,
he was entertained at home by a magicianorganised by the school’s Student Council. The school will hold its own memorial
tribute to Samuel at 2.45pm tomorrow(Wednesday, March 13), where nineballoons in his favourite colours, one foreach year of his life, and nine butterflies -symbolising freedom, new life and a newjourney to a pain-free place - will bereleased.“The school has been great,” said Jackie. She would also like to thank everyone in
the wider community who supportedSamuel and the family in numerous waysduring the past difficult year.“There are too many people to name, but

Tamborine Mountain rainfall for February, 2013
OUR rainfall has broken records again as it did last year. We had a very wetFebruary with Fern St. recording 370.4mm when their long-term median is
149mm and mean is 220mm. Following a very wet January recording of 761.2mmthis gives a two-month total of 1131.6mm. This has only been exceeded twice beforein 1947 (1392mm) and in 1974 (1925mm). In 1976 the two-month total was1115mm and last year the two-month total was 1036mm.Interestingly the monsoon trough got nowhere near us in February although much
of the rain was due to troughs coming in from the west and developing instabilitywell into the upper atmosphere. In the middle of the month a deep low formed off-shore in the broad cloud mass and gave us a deluge. The map shows a big range ofrain across the Mountain with heaviest falls in the middle parts. And if it felt very wet this wasn’t only because of all the rain but because it rained
nearly every day. There were 22 rainy days in February at Fern St compared with anaverage of 14.5.

Yellow Carabeen – Sloanea woollsii – MacDonald National Park.
THEYellow Carabeen is one of the glories of our rainforest. Fine examples also occur inPalm Grove, which has the mountain’s best stand of the tree. Those in MacDonald are
more spread out. Literally in the example depicted where the plate roots not only formcharacteristic and engulfing buttresses, they trail across the ground as if they belonged to aMoreton Bay Fig. The roots of this tree have eye-catching striations and their brown edging isunusually distinctive. According to the Atlas of Living Australia, the species is found in northeastern New South Wales and South East Queensland, with two isolated locations furthernorth.

TAMBORINE Mountain’s RSL Sub-branch hopes to recruit some younger
veterans and ex-service people to boost itsranks.President John Brookes said that
membership was the lifeblood of the RSLand that men or women who had servedwith Australian or allied services in anycapacity for six months or more may beeligible to join the organisation. “The RSL continues to find it very
difficult to attract younger veterans and ex-servicepersons and, in response, currentlyoffers a card entitling those eligible to 12months free membership,” he said.At its recent annual general meeting, Mr
Brookes thanked members of themanagement committee for theircontribution to the sub-branch during2012, and paid tribute to Mervyn
Somerville who has stood down from theexecutive.“Merv, at 90, is probably the last of the
World War Two veterans to serve on themanagement committee and for manyyears he was an excellent MembershipSecretary,” said Mr Brookes.“His wise counsel was always
appreciated and Merv donated many hoursof his time to various projects to preserveand display our memorabilia.” Mr Brookes asked members of the
Tamborine community who had aneighbour, mate or acquaintance who maybe eligible to join the RSL to encouragethem to do so.“They would be made most welcome,”
he said.For membership enquiries, please phone5545 0120.

VISIONARY SUN INITIATIVE BYPRINCIPAL
NOW that the rain has cleared somewhatand the sun is shining as I write, it is a
timely reminder of the need to continue withgood sun protection practices in ourSunshine State. I see all too often the long-term effects of
excessive sun exposure every day in the lineof my work and therefore I was extremelypleased to read of the wonderful initiative bya visionary school principal Mr Jason Smithof Tamborine Mountain State School,
liaising with the Cancer Council to provideevery student with a bucket hat for outdooractivities. It is through such commitment that
hopefully the students link the need toprotect their skin when outside and continuethis practice in their leisure time. Great rolemodelling comes from the top and hopefullyother school principals may follow JasonSmith’s lead.

A MESS AT CEDAR CREEKPOOLS
TOWARDS the end of the schoolsholidays we took our granddaughters
(6 and 9) to Cedar Creek pools. Theywere delighted by their surroundings andthe experience of swimming in a naturalenvironment. Regrettably, there was a lot of litter at
the site and as more people arrived, waterbombing competitions from the rockscommenced, and we decided to go home. The girls were disappointed but we
promised them we would come back at7am the next day when we would havethe place to ourselves. This we did, takingsome rubbish bags with us to clean up.The children really enjoyed nature that
morning and we only left once peoplestarted arriving, taking the collectedrubbish with us, but leaving one emptybag behind to enable others to removetheir rubbish. Then ex-tropical cyclone Oswald
intervened, but at the next weekend thegirls were eager to visit Cedar Creekpools. So off we went, arriving early andthe girls enjoyed a rather cool swim. The riverbed had been washed clean; butthe rubbish that had been put in the bag
we left behind a fortnight before was atthe point of bursting. More had beendumped near it, including a pile on thepath which even included a soileddisposable nappy. Totally disgusting!Once again we removed the lot.
Can Australia not respect its pristinenature? Are the unfortunates living alongthe creek downstream aware of the filthin the water? Pigs are cleaner. What happened to the slogan: “Take
nothing but photographs, leave nothingbut footprints.”I doubt we will go back there. CEMI (Name and address supplied)

CALLING ALL BUSINESSOWNERS
Iam a mountain resident, have a passion forphotography and want to use this passionto record a little piece of history about themountain. The project in mind is to create arecord of the businesses trading onTamborine Mountain by producing a coffeetable style book with a series ofenvironmental portraits of each businessowner/operator accompanied by a fewparagraphs, written by each business owner, detailing the nature of their business, theservices they provide, how long they havebeen trading, number of employees etc.The intent of the book is purely as a record
for historical purposes at a given time, a'snapshot' of the type of services in demandby the Tamborine Mountain community andits visitors and not as a promotional tool forthe participating businesses.A copy of the book, once published, will
be donated to Tamborine Mountain Libraryand will also be made available for purchaseby the participating businesses and thegeneral public. In order to start the ballrolling I am seeking expressions of interestfrom any business owner or operator whowould like to participate in such a project. Ifyou would like to participate, please emailme at [email protected], statingyour name, your business name and acontact number. I will then contact you toarrange a convenient time to take yourportrait. Once the photographs have beentaken you will need to send me a synopsis ofyour business for inclusion in the book andto accompany the photographs. Each participant would be required to sign
a 'model release form' providing mepermission to use the photographs within thepublication and on my personal website:gmarshall.zenfolio.com

PROPOSED 12 STOREYTELECOMMUNICATION TOWER
TELSTRA is proposing atelecomunication tower 12 storeys high
at 16-24 Witches Chase Forest Park.[Roughly three times taller than maturegum trees.]Should this be an issue open to the
community for discussion?I am very concerned about living directly
beneath a massive telecommunicationstower for various reasons. One isconcerned with my close friend’s passingfrom a brain tumor last year. His home wasclose to a very large tower on the mountainwhere he lived for many years. He and afriend did investigate collected readings onelectro magnetic radiation (EMR) and otherdata but too late. What are the triggers forany cancer? Is one more tower just onetower too many?
Are there safer alternatives and have theybeen investigated? With three towers in such close
proximity, even If each operates withinpresumed safe limits, how do three towersat once affect human cells? Are the effectsto even low levels of exposure to EMRsaccumulative? And is cell heating the onlyproblem associated withtelecommunications towers? For me it comes down to two questions:
How badly do I want a better reception formy mobile?’ and: Is ‘debatably safe’ goodenough for my grandchildren and me? Notfor me – and my grandchildren can’t makean informed choice, so I choose no forthem too. Council has received an application for a
12 storey Telstra tower at 16-24 WitchesChase. You can view it on PD Online usingref MC.Bd213/00005

THE ANIMALS KNOW WHAT ISHAPPENING
Isee in the national newspapers and hearon the radio that we are experiencing thehottest weather ever recorded. Sometimesthey print little temperature and rainfallcharts with relevant information incomplicated colour code. For almost 20 years we have lived on
Tamborine Mountain. Except from about2009 to now we have noticed no canetoads, declining eastern water dragons, zero water dragon egg-laying, fewersnakes being seen, fewer skink lizards andless hunting for food by the kookaburras. The seasonal hunting migration of theherons seems to have stopped. Theirarrival and departure coincided with themigration of the whales, and we do notseem to get the usual visitation of fieldmice and bush rats.
Personally, I have felt the cold muchmore and this has made the mountain lessattractive for me. We have not had to usethe air-conditioning, except the warm airfor winter.Like everyone else, we have had far
more rain than usual and any medium dryspells have been duly compensated by longrainy spells. One usually makes estimates of nature
by the behaviour of the animals which canfeel (detect) the slightest temperaturevariation, and if the variation is long andsevere, the animals adjust accordingly. Justrecently, the media have reported thatscientists have discovered extremefreezing "zones" of water in the SouthernOcean of Antarctica. It appears that the weather, as always,
will always baffle mankind until theanimals teach us the truth.

PINK BAGS NOTCOLLECTING FORCHARITY
IF you have received a pink bagsoliciting donations of clothing
etc, know that this is not a charity. It is a commercial operation andyour generosity is going to peoplebent on selling the goods at thehighest price they can get.You can find this fact if you scroll
down the bag and read the smallprint under the collection day.For further comment on this
issue, go tohttp://www.theage.com.au/victoria/lookalikes-hit-charity-supplies-20121223-2bttx.html.There are many charities that
will funnel all your donations toneedy people, flood victims, etc.Use the pink bag, but drop it at areal charity, and give these people amiss.

Party at Memorial Hallwon’t be forgotten
Awild party which resulted in threeyoung people being taken to hospital
just over a fortnight ago will long beremembered by everyone associated withthe Tamborine Memorial Hall.New procedures are in place to ensure
that the hall is never again used for raveor Facebook parties, said NicolePardilanan, who had hired the hall to agroup she said had wanted to hold aprivate birthday party. The ‘party’ turned into a major
incident involving police, paramedicsand hundreds of young people and, whilethere was only minor damage to the hall, the event could have ended in disasterwith the old timber building packed tomore than three times its maximumcapacity.“They (the organisers) said it was a
21st birthday, not a Facebook party,” shesaid.“Never again will they be allowed to
hire the hall, and all other halls need tobe wary is all I can say.”Nicole praised police who acted
quickly, bringing in officers from NorthTamborine, Coomera, Beaudesert,Jimboomba, Nerang and the Dog Squad, after the party went viral on Facebook, “A big thank-you to Tamborine
Mountain police – they did well,” she said.Scenic Rim Regional Council will not
be taking any action under council by-laws against the organisers of the event.

MAIN GOLF CLUBSINGLE STROKE SAT 23RD FEBThe weather looked ominous but held out for
most of the day for some of us to do some morehacking and rearranging of the undergrowth. That man again Kaleb O’Bree on the winnerscircle with 37 points just pipped Maurie Paynewith 36 points on a countback from AntonWernerkinck. Kaleb has brought his handicapdown at the rate of knots last year and intends togo lower, I’m sure he will. Anton who doesn’tseem to play as much these days certainlyshowed that he still has plenty of game, playingoff a handicap of 4, under very heavy conditionswas a very fine round indeed. Seen out on thecourse playing together were a few marriedcouples, remember the golden rule, playing withyour spouse runs almost as great a risk as gettingcaught playing with someone else’s anywhereelse. But it was nice to see.9 HOLE CHOOK RUN THURS 28TH FEBThe “Big Man” Lawrence Richardson swept
all before him in a great round of 25 points.Lawrence said after the round that he enjoyed hisday even though he was playing alongside Jean-Paul DeShankalot a 36 handicapper visiting fromFrench Caledonia. Apparently Jean-Paul had avery bad stutter and a very, very, bad day tryingto hit the ball. So when he put other golfers indanger with his wayward shots couldn’t seem toget out the word “Fore” or what ever it was inFrench. Lawrence quote “a very funny day butalso very dangerous”. Phil Robson after hisreturn from extended holidays showed great formwith 23 points for 2nd from motelier ChristopherHowes (sounds good) on 21 points, 3rd. RodSchulte won the approach on the 3rd while BrettClisby the nearest the pin on the 5th.18 HOLE STABLEFORD THURS 28TH FEBAs mentioned above Anton Wernerkinck
played his little heart out with a great round, oneunder par 69, wow! Anton wasn’t available forcomment after the game as he had to attend aparental instruction day entitled “Home Alone”apparently he was the only one invited. Anyway, well done! In the distant dust, 3 players all on 35points, Phil Robson, Rod Schulte and BrettClisby. Phil took out 2nd on the countbacksystem, well done Phil and Rod 3rd. JimmyDunn nearest the pin on 14 whilst Roger Way theapproach shot on 12.
