Tamang Heritage Trail is located between langtang and ganesh Himal in the Tibetan Borderlands of rasuwa district.

This trek facilitates both homestay in the ethnic Tamang village or camping.

Ganesh Himal Range

ever since TRPAP (Tourism for rural Poverty alleviation Program) initiated homestay trek in the Tamang villages of rasuwa District, the influx of tourists in the region has risen from 0 to over 5,000.

“Tourism has brought education, employment and overall prosperity in the region, and also helped to save and preserve the local Tamang tribal culture.

Villages of rasuwa district, namely Syabrubesi, gatlang, Tato-pani, Thuman and Briddim, are very remote. The access to the

inner region is facilitated only by foot.

The small population of the villages consist mostly of Tamang tribal people, one of the indigenous tribes of nepal.

Objectives of Homestay Tourism (Implementations in Tamang Heritage Trail)

T amang are the indigenous inhabiants of northern regions of nepal. They are known to have descended from the Ti-beto-Burman region of Asia, while, many others even trace their lineage back to mongolia. They have a distinct culture, language and tradition. majority of the population speak their mother tongue ‘Tamang’.

They also prohibit inter-racial nuptials. residing mainly in the northern Hima-laya region of nepal, along with many parts of Tibet, Bhutan

and india, they have a distinct lifestyle. Lochhar (New Year) and Buddha Jayan-ti (Buddha’s Birth) are the two of their major festivals celebrated.

Tamang people are one of indigenous tribes and constitute 6.6% of the to-tal population of nepal. mostly found in the northern regions of nepal, Ta-mang people have their own cul-ture and lifestyle which mostly re-sembles Tibetan buddhist culture.

rich in sociocultural aspects, most ofthe settlements are located in the re-mote regions, therefore, hindering de-velopment and prosperity of the clan. Development of Tamang Heritage Trail has led to an advancement in their lives.
