Here are the most common mistakes made by most people:

Talking too fast, especially when nervous, including many broadcasters. Not knowing what three vital rules to follow at the end of a sentence (and I dont include stop

    Why the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM?

    Steve running a Master Class

I would like to explain why you need a technique. After all, you are quite capable of communicatingwith other people and reading.

Just have a look at this survey

When words are delivered by someone

trained in the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM,up to 83% of the information will be retained by the listener.

the same information is delivered by an untrained voice, retention can drop by as much as 50%.

    Fondation de la Recherche Psychologique

We all know people who would make better progress in life if they had more confidence. To behonest, I think we could all do with a bit more confidence, because it affects everything we do.

Its all very well having a head full of knowledge and being ambitious, but you need a professionaltechnique to express your ideas even more confidently and to be more persuasive.

And of course, Im sure most of us would like to increase our income by recording voiceovers forradio and television commercials.

Of course, I realise there are many companies claiming to teach voiceovers. Ive read their booksand listened to their CDs and a few of them give some helpful tips, but none of them has techniquefor the effective delivery of words.

Heres an example of why you need to be careful.

A leading voiceover training company in America states that: The faster you talk, the more you

sell. Because of this speed you will also be perceived as: more intelligent, objective, knowledgeable, credible and persuasive. Ive never heard so much rubbish! How can fast talkingmake you sound intelligent? I spend most of my life slowing people down!

You need to know the secrets of your favourite actor or voiceover.

    Who needs a professional technique?

Anyone involved in presentations, public speaking, sales, press, public relations and teaching:

    Radio and television voiceovers

Television and radio newsreaders, reporters and presenters

    (autocue / teleprompt)

Corporate executives to improve communication on the phone, shareholders meetings, facing the press

Sales staff for presentations in person or on the phone

Call centre operators a vital part of a successful business, the nerve centre for futuresuccess. This is why the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM is essential because theircommunication skills can make or break your reputation

Lawyers to win cases by convincing judge and jury

Air traffic controllers where professional communication can be a matter of life and death

Politicians to sell their policies and get more votes

Singers because they are communicating and using their voice like a musical instrument

Sports and darts commentators - Mr. 180!! was on the course recently

Job seekers have more confidence at job and promotion interviews

You have a unique speech pattern

You may not have noticed it, but when you put your jeans on, you start with the same leg everytime. In the shower if you are right handed, you probably pick up the soap with your right handand wash (lets say) your left shoulder first. You never think: This is boring, Ive been doing it thisway for years today, its going to be left hand, right knee. Well, in the same way, we develop aspeech pattern.

A speech pattern starts when a baby is born. Its not surprising that a newborn baby cries when itis held upside down in a strange new world. Crying is the first form of communication.

From then on we learn a language, an accent, speed, tone and an intricate way of arranging wordsin a sentence. These are influenced by our parents, friends and school. The trouble is that noschool, university or college (even a stage school) teaches a technique for professionalcommunication. Throughout the world and in every language, children are simply taught to string

    words together.

The problem is that when we read a voiceover script or teleprompt/autocue that is written bysomeone else, its obviously written in their speech pattern so we are taken out of our comfortzone.

Communication is easier when chatting to a friend because in this case we are writing our ownscript as we go along and naturally it is in our own speech pattern.

To read someone elses speech pattern professionally is called: acting which is why actors trainfor two years and why you need the Hudson Voice Technique TM.

To become a professional actor or voiceover you need a technique so you can adapt to someoneelses speech pattern.

    What is your potential?

Some people are told they have a good voice and should be recording voiceovers. Thats likesaying; youve got ten fingers so you should play the piano for the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra.

Obviously, you would need a technique.

I hear stories every week from people who have been given advice by a well-meaning friend, actor, voiceover or producer. Usually the advice is to record a demo CD. That really is putting the cartbefore the horse!

If you want to be a professional pianist, what would you do first? Probably buy a piano and then, ifyou were serious, you would find a reputable teacher and learn to read music.

Well, you already own the musical instrument your voice and assuming you have a goodpersonality and ambition, all you have to do now is learn how to play all the notes.

Every week, people ask me about how much work there is and how much money they can earn asa voiceover. Once you are trained in the Hudson Voice Technique TM and practise, your potential as

    a voiceover is enormous.

India is now a world economic power with a growth rate of close to 10%.The biggest potential is corporate narration. This includes videos for documentaries, sales training, safety training, promotional and induction. Thousands of television and radio commercials areproduced every year, not to forget video games, cartoons, websites and talking books. And ofcourse, there is the tourist sector and on-hold phone systems.

Manufacturing and service industries are growing at an alarming rate.India now owns Jaguar and Land Rover and many companies from the UK and Europe arerushing to invest in your country.

Apart from Hindi and English, there are 16 official languages in India and there are voiceoversneeded in all of them.

What does all this mean to someone who wants to increase their income by recording voiceovers?

The point Im making is that there is plenty of voice work for ambitious people who want to becomevoiceover actors, as long as they are trained in the only voiceover technique in the world _ theHudson Voice Technique

There is similar potential in most countries, and I havent mentioned the biggest potential, which iscorporate narration. This includes videos for documentaries, sales training, safety training, promotional and induction. Thousands of television commercials are produced every year, not toforget video games, websites and talking books.

I was working in Los Angeles and my agent, Bob Lloyd, phoned me to say Id been cast as the on-camera spokesman for Gallo Wine. I spent a week at Paramount studios in Hollywood recordingfour commercials.

Everyone was happy with the results so I asked the producer from the Young & Rubicamadvertising agency how much I would be paid. He told me that as it was a national campaign, I

would earn $1 million in residuals.

    I was a millionaire!

The next day Gallo cancelled the campaign. I was paid $1,000 for a weeks work. I sobbeduncontrollably for several years!

    When I started

I was doing a stunt job for one of the worlds biggest advertising agencies J. Walter Thompson. One day the casting director asked me if I did voiceovers. Up to that point the closest Id been todoing a voiceover was shouting with fear when crashing a police car, or being hit on the head witha sword when filming on the Golden Hind (not the original that would make me 237 years old!).So I went to a studio in Londons Covent Garden.

The television commercial was for Dunlop. I had no training, in fact I didnt know a microphonefrom a doorknob, but at least I wasnt scared I should have been! Twenty minutes later I walkedfrom the studio in a daze. It was a disaster!

That was several years ago, and since then I have earned a small fortune, travelled all over theworld and enjoyed every minute!

I learned a very important lesson that day: if you want to get into a new career, which could be very

    profitable, you need a technique.

A good voice alone is not enough.

    Voice categories

What sorts of voices are popular? Just listen to TV and radio commercials and youll hear regionalaccents, deep voices, light voices, character voices, monkeys selling tea, cats selling cat food andthousands of cartoons. The voice used depends on the product.

Deeper voices usually sell luxury goods, such as perfumes, chocolates and cars, whereas lightervoices usually sell consumables like butter, washing-up liquid and childrens products. These areall specialist areas and no one person can do them all.

Today, female voiceovers are as much in demand as male.

Some people assume that a deep or sexy voice is enough to qualify as a voiceover. You may havethe sexiest voice in the world, but with training you will be able to use your sexy voice far moreeffectively and sound even sexier. Deep and mellifluous voices are popular, but a lighter voice haseven more potential.

    Cartoon characters and accents

The ability to use accents and different voices can be useful, particularly on cartoon commercials so useful in fact, that I know of a number of American and English voiceovers who earn over a $1million a year. It might be a cartoon cat talking about food or a peanut extolling the virtues of a newchocolate bar.

If you have a good ear and can create characters, then the potential is enormous. If you cant docharacter voices, dont worry: a straightforward read in your natural voice has the biggest potentialof all, because the majority of commercials are made without character voices.

    Jingle singers

Many television and radio commercials use music and singers to enhance their image and makethe commercials more memorable. Jingle singers can earn a great deal of money. I believe thebest way to start is by training to be a voiceover and include a jingle on your demo CD.

As a beginner, if you are realistic about your fee, you could be chosen for radio commercials andthen move up to television.

The Hudson Voice TechniqueTM has been used by Virgin Records to train their singers because, whether you are singing or talking, you have to use your voice like a musical instrument and yourcommunication has to be professional.

    Talking Books

Talking books is the biggest growth area in publishing and the potential runs into millions. Thelargest percentage of talking books are medium selling novels, childrens books and instructionalbooks on dozens of subjects from sex to medicine.

Talking books require a great deal of experience, but it is something to aim at as you get morework and more confident. Obviously, the biggest selling books like Harry Potter and the Lord of theRings would be narrated by a well-known actor, but this is the minority of the work; there are stillthousands of opportunities for many types of publications needing trained readers.

    Working with celebrities

One of the nicest things about voiceovers and television presenting is the number of interestingpeople you meet and work with. You never know who might turn up in a commercial studio youcould easily work with your favourite Bollywood actor because many of them record voiceovers, including Amitabh Bachchan. He is Indias biggest superstar, and works regularly as a voiceover.

Bollywood is already the biggest producer of films in the world, all of which need voiceovers fortrailers, commercials and promotion. India now has over 300 TV Channels and 80 commercialradio stations across the country that need voiceovers for continuity announcers, commercials andpromotion. Assuming that each radio station needs 10 voiceovers a week, that means over 800voiceovers are needed every week.

The vast majority of voiceovers are chosen from people like you and me.

I have enjoyed working with and meeting many stars and celebrities, including Miriam Margolyes,Paul Daniels, Frank Sinatra, Roger Moore, the Duke and Duchess of Bedford, David Bailey, HulkHogan, Pele and Tracey Ullman. I have also appeared in television commercials directed by Ridley

Scott, Adrian Lyne and Alan Parker.

Steve takes a break and chats withthe greatest soccer player in the world Pele.

    Recording a demo CD

Progressive companies use the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM to train their sales staff to be moreeffective on the phone or face to face.

BBC, CNN & SKY newsreaders and reporters use it to make sure that 83% of their information isretained by the viewer. Top executives use the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM to improve their

performance when addressing board members, shareholders and the press. Lawyers use it toconvince judge and jury.

In fact, anyone who would like to earn extra money as a voiceover and be more confident at workand socially should learn the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM.

So, if you have the ambition and determination to become a voiceover, you must make certain thatyou not only get the right training, but also record a well-planned demo CD.

Whatever you do, dont waste your money recording a demo CD before you have beenprofessionally trained.

Once you have finished the course, you can record your demo CD with Indian-Voice Overs. Thisway, youll be sure to get the best result possible!

    Other training companies

Ive never approved of negative selling. Criticising your competition usually means you havent gotenough good things to say about your own product.

However, there are dozens of companies in the USA and the UK who advertise that they will trainyou to become a voiceover. They can be helpful and will give you a lot of tips on the voiceoverbusiness. The fact is; you need the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM because it is the only technique inthe world which specifically deals with the effective delivery of words.

Im not going to name these companies, there is not much point; but if anyone would like to knowwho Im quoting, just e-mail me and I will be happy to provide a list of books and authors.

A leading voiceover training company in America states that: The faster you talk, the more yousell. Because of this speed you will also be perceived as: more intelligent, objective, knowledgeable, credible and persuasive. Ive never heard so much rubbish! How can talking fastmake you sound intelligent? I spend most of my life slowing people down!

This same company then tells you that: To achieve this increased rate of speed, you shouldcompress the pauses between the words.

Ive got news for these people; there are no pauses between words until you come to punctuation.

Then they give an example: Do you have a place where we can sit down? would become: Dyavea place where wecn siddown?

Even here they have contradicted themselves, because they have compressed the words(previously they said to compress the pauses), which obviously makes this sentence more difficultto understand and therefore retention will begin to plummet towards 43%. This unhelpfulinformation is from one of the biggest trainers in the world.

How difficult is it to read an autocue?

Nerves can play strange tricks on most of us when we face an audience or a camera. Our naturalpersonality tends to fall flat, we start to talk faster, stumble over words or lack energy we becomemesmerised by the situation. This is a most nerve-racking situation. Even famous actors are sickor nervous before they go on stage.

Executives often have to address an audience at a convention orshare holders meeting. Usually this means they have to read from an autocue/teleprompt.

Reading from an autocue is no different from reading a script or an advertisement on the back of abus; you need to learn a communication technique. It doesnt matter if youre making a salespresentation, speaking to a large audience or introducing a television programme, you need atechnique.

We all appreciate that when you are in charge of a situation, you have more confidence. Its thesame when you play the piano at a party or golf at the weekend; if you learn a technique, you feel

much more confident, and when you feel confident, your audience will have confidence in you.

Its not professional to expect anyone to record a voiceover or make a presentation without atechnique.

Dyslexia & the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM

Many people attending the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM course during the past 15 years have toldme they suffer from dyslexia. This can be a serious disadvantage at job interviews and in writtentests. Many sufferers reported that there was a considerable improvement when they finished thecourse. The same improvement was noticed when people stumbled over words.

I am not suggesting that the Hudson Voice Technique TM is a cure for acute dyslexia, but it certainlyhelps with the milder forms. Basically, when we are reading, half our brain is reading ahead as akind of rehearsal. The other half is reading what's in front of us. Quite often people stumble oversimple words. I ask students to read part of A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf. Thesentence they read was: The scene, if I may ask you to follow me, was now changed."

Many students stumbled over "if I may ask you At first it seemed strange, until I realised that, even though these simple words had been rehearsed, they had taken them for granted becausethey were simple short words, so they had not concentrated.

If the sentence had started with an unfamiliar word like sesquipedalian, they would have looked

much closer and concentrated. One of the advantages of the Hudson Voice Technique

    TM

is that ithelps people concentrate and analyse what they are reading. This is why the Hudson VoiceTechniqueTM helps children to read earlier and retain a higher percentage of the information.

As Ive said before, the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM is the worlds only technique for verbalcommunication and is unfortunately not taught by any school, university or even stage school. It isfairly apparent that words are the most important tool we possess because, in order to besuccessful in life, we need the ability to communicate and persuade.

Its all very well having a head full of knowledge, but you need a professional technique to expressyour ideas more confidently and persuasively.

Most people don't listen to themselves when they read or talk. So, if they don't listen tothemselves, no one else is going to listen to them either.

We run an inclusive theatre group in Hunstanton in Norfolk. Many of our children have learningdifficulties and social problems, ranging from confidence, bullying and other 'labels', such as ADHD(Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), as well as, of course, dyslexia.

The Hudson Voice Technique has helped not only the children's reading confidence, but also the adults whoattend. We use the booklet that you gave us as a constant guideline.

Some of the parents of our 'labelled' children have commented on how their children's behaviour, both at

school and at home, has improved.Les Miles and Tim Rock

    The Unprofessionals

Untrained voiceovers reduce advertisers profits. Are commercials as good as ten years ago?

Too many advertising agencies fail to understand the importance of a professionally trained

voiceover. Some of the major advertising agencies fall into this trap and mislead their clients.

Heres just a small selection of companies who have been let down by the advertising producerusing an untrained voiceover for their TV campaign:Findus, Ford, Kelloggs, Kia, IBM, LOreal, and a few more.As for Rimmel!

Most companies use an untrained people in their call centres. Many of them have accents youcould cut with a knife. I really dont care about political correctness; company image is vitallyimportant. The last thing the company wants is an irritated or bored potential customer!

Voice MasterTM has conducted a survey of the standards of television and radio commercials and

corporate narration. A staggering 67% of people who have attended the Hudson VoiceTechniqueTM course in the last 18 months were not happy with the standards. The main complaintswere the irritating habits of untrained voiceovers. This applied not only to TV commercials, but alsoto documentary narrators, presenters, newsreaders and reporters and you cant blame thevoiceovers!

I was not surprised that 91% thought that the production standards of Discovery and BBCdocumentaries were exceptionally high.So why do these companies use so many untrained voiceovers? With a budget of tens ofthousands of dollars/ pounds, surely they arent trying to save a small amount of money?

It seems that some producers are more interested in winning awards than selling their clients

product. Producers working for all the major broadcasters in the UK and USA and some leading adagencies are responsible. They obviously think that anyone can be a voiceover thats likethinking that anyone with ten fingers can play the violin; if you want to be professional, you need atechnique.

A leading advertising producer told me this year that his job was to push the boundaries. He wasreferring to even more sex and violence. I disagree. I think his job is to be creative and sell theproduct. Producers who use untrained voiceovers, e.g., people from the accounts department orfriends, should listen more closely to leading voiceovers who are professionally trained. If theycant hear the difference, perhaps they should try another career.

It should be obvious to everyone that a professionally trained voiceover is as important as thepicture.

    After all, Walt Disney said:

Voice technique is as important as the picture.

Whats the point of an untrained voiceover if the listener cant retain approximately 83% of yourinformation?

There are hundreds of excellent voiceovers in the UK and the USA. But there are also manyuntrained voiceovers and some producers assume that, because theyve recorded a few

    voiceovers, they must be good.

I have cooked many recipes, but that doesnt make me Jamie Oliver!

    Advertising agencies should know better

Findus recently used the line: Findus, the most tender peas. What do you think is the most important part of this sentence? The job of the skilled voiceover is to evoke the memory of grandmas Sunday lunch roast beef, crunchy roast potatoes and a pile of steaming fresh peas with a knob of butter on top the bestmeal of the week!

The voiceover is selling the most tender peas. Most of us couldnt tell the difference betweenFindus and Birdseye peas, so the difference must be in the presentation and advertising. And ofcourse the voiceover!

In this case the voiceover said: Findus, THE most tender peas.

Paramount, one of my favourite channels shows excellent comedies but they recorded anannouncer saying: Comedy IS paramount.

For some strange reason they have put all the emphasis on the word is. You only have to use

common sense to know that paramount is the most important word. Comedy is the second mostimportant word and is simply provides a means of connecting the two.

Apart from being wrong, it irritates the listener not good for the company image!

Many of these companies would point to their increase in sales. Of course there is an increase insales, because they spend a fortune on massive advertising campaigns.

The point is that using a professionally trained voiceover would increase their sales even furtherand it might even stop their potential customers from being irritated.

The BBC spent a small fortune producing a documentary called T ime Machine. It was an excellent

production but one newspaper said: It was spoilt by the boring narration by Jeremy Vine. He is anexpert in his own field, but has not been trained to deliver words correctly. The BBC, Fox, ABC,NBC and CNN regularly use untrained voiceovers.

In spite of the very high production standards set by Discovery, amazingly, they average 50%untrained voiceovers. They spend millions of dollars on production and then try to save a couple ofhundred dollars on the voiceover ridiculous!

Apart from the lack of professionalism, an untrained voiceover, whilst attempting to get it right, would take longer and not sound as good as a true professional, so the producers wont be savingmoney because it will cost them more in studio time.

Producers wouldnt use an out-of-focus picture,so why use an out-of-focus voice?

Which commercial voiceover or newsreader irritates you most?

The difference in my news reading alone is quite astonishing. All those bad habits picked up over

the years have been isolated out and I feel much more confident on air.

Can the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM help the ratings war?

It amazes me that television and radio reporters in every country who are highly qualified and workfor a broadcasting company and do a wonderful job are not taught a technique for reading a script,teleprompt/autocue or for general communication.

Major broadcasting companies spend millions of dollars on communication training even thoughnone of them teaches a technique. The Hudson Voice TechniqueTM would ensure that thepresenters are more confident, a greater amount of information would be retained by the viewerand ratings would improve.

Surprisingly this includes all the major broadcasters: BBC, NBC, ABC, FOX and CNN.

Just click here to listen to one of the leading presenters on Fox TV, Greta van Susteren.

All broadcasters waste a great deal of money by employing communication trainers who have notechnique. A BBC reporter was on the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM course recently. She told methat one of their trainers comes round every three months and suggests the best way to improve is

by copying someone you like. This is nonsense!

Firstly, you cant copy Andreas Boccelli to become an opera singer; in any case, the broadcasteryoud be copying would not be trained in a technique themselves!

It would be quite straightforward to save these broadcasting companies millions and at the sametime improve the performance of their presenters, newsreaders and reporters, which wouldobviously improve their ratings.

Why be an amateur if you can be a professional?

In spite of their high standard of education, radio and television newsreaders, reporters and

presenters are not trained in a professional technique. Without the proper technique, they arereading and speaking by instinct.

    Dictionary definition:

instinct /instingkt/n. The innate aspect of behaviour that is unlearned.

In other words they are making up their own rules as they go along; they are guessing.

The result is that a high percentage of them emphasise insignificant words like is, we, and, you, and your. If a television commercial voiceover says: Insure your home with the ABCinsurance company, whose home but your own would you insure? This has become very

common and it means they have failed to recognise and emphasise the words that really matter.

Many broadcasters, voiceovers and some actors believe that recording dozens of voiceoversmakes them professional.

Well, it doesnt remember: they are reading by instinct!

If you dont have a technique, you will obviously be repeating faults. Its like playing the piano byear. You can entertain your friends at a party, but you will never play for the London PhilharmonicOrchestra until you have a professional technique and are able to differentiate between a semi-quaver and a crotchet.

A producer recently told me that he likes to use untrained voiceovers because they sound natural.People who think this are living in cloud-cuckoo-land because sounding natural is the hardest thing

for any actor or voiceover to achieve.

The Seven Elements of the Hudson Voice TechniqueTM

    Read and speak slowlyTM

This will make you a more effective communicator. Some 63% of people talk too quickly. This makes it difficult for the listener to assimilate and

analyse information. It is also irritating to listen to. This element will teach you the secret that FrankSinatra used so well. We are going to slow you down.

Read and speak with energy and enthusiasmTM

This element will make you a more dynamic speaker.Energy equals enthusiasm and its contagious. So many people talk without energy and becomewhat I call talking heads, which frankly is boring! You have to learn to use your body correctly andtalk more positively.

    Starting and ending sentencesTM

This will make it easier for people to retain at least 83% of your information .Most people run one sentence into another, which confuses the listener because there is usuallyno differential between the end and the beginning of sentences. In this element you will learn the three vital things to do at the end of a sentence (and I dontinclude stop and breathe). This element will make you sound more confident and authoritative. When you sound moreconfident, your audience will have more confidence in you.

    Creating blocks of informationTM

This will put you in control.

One of the most important points we need to remember about the process of spokencommunication is that apart from clearly separating sentences, we must also recognise andseparate individual blocks of information within the sentence.

You will learn what a mental comma is and how to use it.

    Read and speak softlyTM

Remember: words are the power of persuasion. Here you are going to learn to really to control your voice like a musical instrument. There areseveral tones you can use and at the end of this element you will be able to use them right on cue.

Youll also learn how to use your no. 5 voice.

    Recognise red flag wordsTM

You will feel and sound more confident. In this element you will learn to identify the appropriate words to emphasise and at this stage youwill start to learn how to vary your pace, volume, tone and pitch. You will be able to identify red flagwords that are instructions from the author.

    Putting it all togetherTM

You are painting a word picture. Now you will learn to use all the elements at the same time. This is sometimes called: The Vincentvan Gogh Method of communication because it will be more colourful. Instead of only using theprimary colours, you will be able to use every colour and tint on the palette.

    About Steve

Reprint from TV TimesSecrets of the Black Magic Box Man

If TV commercials were to have a cast list at the end, Steve Hudsons name

would be known to millions. Instead, the man who poses the question Whoknows the secret of the Black Magic Box? is a bit of a mystery manhimself, a familiar face behind a well known brand name identity. He wasthe on-camera spokesman for Gallo Wine.

Youve heard him as Supermanwhen he chased the evil Nick-o-tine acrossyour screens in the famous million dollar anti-smoking campaign and in theOld Spiceadverts he tells you its The Mark of a Man. His voice advertises

many other products including Kodak, Martini, Ford, Shell, Pentax, Guinness and milk on Swisstelevision! He can also be heard regularly on Radio 5 South Africa and Radio 3 Tokyo, and is theVoice of Rock on 100FM Pakistan and many American Stations. Youve seen him in variouscampaigns, from Harp Lager to Drifter Chocolate, and he recently appeared as Signor Tonino in a

2 million advertising campaign selling Tonino wine.

Steve was trained at Londons Royal National Theatre and was proud to have the same voicecoach as Laurence Olivier and Richard Burton. During this time he came close to real stardomwhen Cubby Broccoli was casting for the lead role in James Bond movies; Steve said he lost by aneyebrow (and a few million pounds) to Roger Moore.

Steve Hudson has been a voiceover and television presenter for 20 years and in this time has wona number of awards for production and performance. Steve also runs seminars at the ActorsCentre, and advises actors on how to start in the voiceover business. He recently ran a MasterClass on Talk Radio on the Nancy Robert show. He firmly believes that everyone has the potential;they just need to be trained. People rarely become good actors, golfers or surgeons without propertraining.

Steve has been involved in thousands of television commercials as a voiceover, presenter andproducer. He recently devised 10 new programme ideas for NBC in New York, including theRound the World quiz show, The Castaways, the Horace Cope game show and the HudsonReport. Steve has enjoyed working with and interviewing many stars and celebrities, includingFrank Sinatra, Roger Moore, the Duke and Duchess of Bedford, David Bailey, Hulk Hogan, Peleand Tracey Ullman.

I would like to thank Bob Lloyd my agent and friend for his help. Bob founded Voice Caster in LosAngeles the best voice casting company in America.

    Why Voice MasterTM

? Well, I was impressed by the personal and interested approach of Steve and hisstaff. Was it the right choice? As a beginner one can only gauge satisfaction as a feeling of, Was mymoney well spent? The answer was definitely yes! Any success? From being a total beginner, in the lasttwelve months I have completed a 13-part music series as a presenter for Sony TV, and there is also talk ofa second series. From that I was put in touch with a production company filming a travel show, and I haverecently finished filming on location in South America. I am now supported by a reputable agent(recommended by Steve). It is reassuring to know that Steves experience and quality advice is available atthe end of a phone line. Would I recommend it? Yes, without a doubt.Ranj Nagra Manchester

Since I finished the Hudson Voice Technique home study course, I have picked up some nice bits of work.I already had quite a bit of experience as a voiceover artist. The Hudson Voice Technique made me more confident and I found that voiceover recordings were finishedquicker. In one job in particular I even amazed myself! There was another person who was supposed to workwith me but didn't turn up, and I ended up doing twice the work in half the time, due to your training, and theyonly had to pay one person, not two. It was great - it was for Friends of the Earth, and they were very gratefulbecause their budget was very tight.Brandilee Nel

I must say that although I came to the course as a professionally trained actor, the Hudson Voice Techniquehas proved invaluable in giving me with the very specific skills I needed for my public speaking. I cannotthink of a better and more essential preparation to give me the confidence I needed. I would not hesitate torecommend it!

Thanks Steve! I only wish I had known about your Method while I was actually working for the BBC! I was aproducer and presenter at the BBC World Service for ten years and what I know now (and practice) wouldhave saved a lot of production time and made programmes more effective. During the course of that decadeI must have produced thousands of programmes and presented many hundreds. A lot of them lacked oneessential ingredient that is supposed to be the lifeblood of every broadcaster listenability. There was noformal training at the BBC and when guidance was offered it wasnt a patch on the Hudson Voice Technique.

I learned more about reading and broadcasting in two half-day sessions with you Steve, than I did in tenyears at the BBC. Only now can I count myself a professional broadcaster and voiceover.Hugo Fay

Onceagain, it was your technique that enabled me to assemble and deliver the words in a way that I hope willmake some semblance of sense to the listener. The Hudson Voice Technique is such a treat to work with.Gene Tognacci, professional voiceover (15+years), USA

The most important part for me was learning to identify what we do when we communicate. Putting it inpractical terms, learning how to run and maintain our "vocal machine", so that it operates efficiently see inany environment. I found the course very useful in providing a technique which will enable me to relayinformation with authority - a great advantage in so many ways!Jonathan Wood
