ity please let them know about us. We
are fortunate to have the support of sev-
eral groups.
The 5th ATV Poker Run, North Augusta
on August 25th, was organized by Carolin
and Bill Kroot and their family and
friends. Over 150 registrants drove 45
km. Door prizes and poker hand prizes
which were donated by businesses were
given out at the BBQ following the ride.
$3,504 was donated to the chapter for
client services in Leeds Grenville.
The 1000 Islands Street Machine Asso-
ciation sold 50/50 tickets in August on
Tuesday evenings at the A & W parking
lot near Walmart. The group brings their
many antique cars for the public to ad-
mire. Kevin Smith presented $630 to
Elaine on August 23rd. Our membership
is encouraged to support this fundraiser
by attending their show each Tuesday
evening from May to September. This
group supports a different charity each
month.
The A & W Restaurants in Leeds Gren-
ville had their 4th “Cruisin for a Cause”
on August 23rd. This year three new res-
taurants participated—two on Hwy 401
and one in Kemptville along with the
Parkedale restaurant. We were sorry to
learn that the A & W at the 1000 Islands
Mall closed on August 18th. Lucy Stein,
Manager, her son Robert and staff raised
over $2,500 for MS in the two previous
years. A & W’s donated $1 for every
Teenburger sold, had raffle tickets, car cut
outs and donation jars. Over $7,500 was
raised. Since this was an A & W National
Campaign for MS, our chapter should
receive one third of the funds.
The 8th Spaghetti Dinner in January was
very successful. 225 attended. Over
$3,000 was raised. Our thanks to the Le-
gion Ladies for helping with the dinner
especially Barb Lake who cooked.
Thanks to Elinore Warren and Ann Lacey
who prepared the menu and served along
with other volunteers. Thanks to Gael
Bullard for the silent auction, Marg Mohr
for the 50/50 draw and Anne Lusby for
MC’ing. We are indebted to Tom Wilson
and his band for their gift of music each
year. To all the volunteers who sold tick-
ets, many thanks. Our next dinner is
It is that time of year to enjoy the Christ-
mas season and purchase Christmas
cakes, cherry cakes and cookies and come
to our delicious Christmas Dinner. At-
tached is an order form that shows the
items and prices. The prices are the same
as last year. Since the product sells
quickly, please email or phone the office
or visit Monday and Wednesday morn-
ings 9 am to 11:30 am with your order.
Last year we made $8,000 for client ser-
vices. Your support is valuable. Please
pick up your dinner tickets at the office
before December 3rd.
It has been a challenging year re fundrais-
ing, but, thanks to our many volunteers
and businesses that support us, so far, we
have managed to meet our budget re-
quests. The Carnation Campaign was the
best ever raising over $28,000 for client
services. Many thanks to new Captains in
Perth, Smiths Falls and Brockville, we
were able to expand our sales. We are
grateful for the continuing support of our
dedicated Captains and all of our volun-
teers in Leeds Grenville.
The Brockville Walk did not meet its goal
but did raise over $30,000 for MS re-
search. 227 walkers participated. It was
a beautiful fun day. Many thanks to our
Walk Committee, volunteers and spon-
sors. We are grateful to the businesses
that donated goods and services which
kept our costs low. Top fund raisers
were: John McClintock $3,500, Linda
Lumsden $2,500, Ann Lacey $2,090,
Elaine McClintock $1,505 and Teams;
S’myelin $2,230, Liberators $2,200.
We hope this coming year we will receive
more support from our membership and
community.
Third party fundraisers are a great way
for the chapter to receive funds since
there is no cost to the chapter. If you

There was a good turnout to the Volun-
teer Appreciation Coffee Party in Au-
gust at the McClintock’s. Everyone
was thanked for all of their help with
our Chapter activities. Board members
provided delicious refreshments. Spe-
cial recognition was given to Scotia-
bank, Stewart Blvd. whose staff helped
to sell carnations raising $1,200. The
bank matched the sales by giving the
Chapter a cheque for $1,200. Ontario
Division (Matt Cody) presented Cathy
Caldwell and staff with a plaque for
Exceptional Achievement of a Busi-
ness/Organization.
An Ontario Division Certificate of
Merit was presented to Connie
deKleine by Matt Cody, Director of
Volunteers and Chapter Resources, for
her outstanding work for the Chapter
over 17 years as membership coordina-
tor, board member, helper with fund-
raising and client services. Other vol-
unteers recognized were presented
with gift certificates—Barb Lake, Past
President of Ladies Auxiliary, Royal
Canadian Legion, for her five years
leadership with our Spaghetti Dinner.
Tom Wilson and his Band who have
provided 8 years of music for our din-
ner. Betty McInnis, volunteer in West-
port who has sold carnations for 20
years for the Smiths Falls and Leeds
Grenville Chapters.
The Carnation Captains were thanked
at a well attended luncheon at the
McClintock’s in June. Ideas were
shared re how campaigns are organized
in different localities. Top sales were
Marg Mohr and her group in
Kemptville/Merrickville. In Brock-
ville, top sales were at Food Basics
with Colleen Gray and her team of
volunteers. The new captain for Perth,
Brenda Dube, was welcomed to the
group and Marilyn Wamsley, new cap-
tain for Brockville.
