Qatar-History

Traces From 4th century BC Qatari town-”Zubarah” was the most important trading ports in

the gulf region at that time. At present ,The planned Qatar-Bahrain Friendship Bridge, slated

to be the longest fixed link in the world, will connect the northwest coast of Qatar near Zubarah with Bahrain south of Manama.

Qatar was in-treaty with Turks, British. Oil found in Qatar by 1939 at Dukhan field, operations stopped

for 4 years due to 2nd World War. Commercial operations of oil started only by 1949. 1968- British withdraw from the region 1970- Formed 1st Qatari Constitution Independence proclaimed on 3rd September 1971

Qatar- Economy

• Late 1800’s and early 1900’s pearls were Qatar's main source of income.

• At that time the Persian Gulf, particularly around Bahrain and Qatar, was the world's largest source of natural pearls- being rare their demand was high.

• Present Potential Resource is Natural Gas, the North Dome Field is the third largest reserve for liquefied natural gas in the world.

• Qatar's reserves of Natural Gas are 910.5 Trillion Cubic Feet, • Qatar has the 3rd largest gas reserves in the world after Russia

and Iran.
