WATER 9

The key objectives of the vision are as follows:

Water for people: all have access to safe, adequate and

affordable water supply, hygiene and sanitation.

Water for food and rural development: provision of sufficient

water that will ensure national food security and promote rural

development.

Water for economic development: provision of sufficient water to

spur and sustain economic growth within the context of a

knowledge-based economy and e-commerce.

Water for the environment: protection of the water environment

to preserve water resources (both surface water and

groundwater) and natural flow regimes, bio-diversity and the

cultural heritage, along with mitigation of water-related hazards.

FOUR CHALLENGES TOWARDS A BETTER WATER FUTURE

The key set of initiatives:

managing our water resources efficiently and effectively

(addressing both quantity and quality aspects),

moving towards integrated river basin management,

translating awareness into political will and capacity and

moving towards adequate, safe and affordable water services.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING

Sustainable living is essentially the application

of viability and eco-friendly lifestyle that is

primarily energy-saving standard of living

which meets ecological, societal, and

economical needs without compromising the

environment.

Significant factors that attribute to sustainable

living are sustainable design and sustainable

development.

Sustainable design incorporates the

development of appropriate green

technology, which is a staple of sustainable

living practices.

Sustainable development in turn is the use of

these green technologies in infrastructure.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING The focusses of GreenTech’s initiatives are:

To advocate and showcase a systematic process

to reducing carbon emission in urban

developments.

To identify sites that can effectively demonstrate

the application of the LCCF.

To identify criteria and sub-criteria of LCCF to be

applicable for the selected sites in the respective

townships.

To establish a standardised data set collection

methodology that will be used to effectively assess

a baseline annual carbon emission measurement.

To recommend low carbon strategies that will help

reduce carbon emission levels of selected sites.

To monitor and measure the performance of the

respective sites in undertaking the strategies and

action plans formulated.

To build capacity among stakeholders, policy

makers and other urban developers.
