Saturday, May 11, 2013 5:30-6:00 a.m. Arrive at Fort Dodge Airport for processing and boarding 6:45 a.m. Depart Fort Dodge Regional Airport (hot breakfast served) 10:00 a.m. Arrive at Dulles Airport, Washington, D.C. (1 hour time zone change) 11:00 a.m. Board buses and depart to Lincoln, Korean and Vietnam Monuments 11:45 a.m. Arrive at Lincoln, Korean, and Vietnam Monuments 1:30 p.m. Begin loading buses 1:45 p.m. Depart for Tour of Washington, D.C. and eat lunch 3:00 p.m. Arrive at WWII Monument - Group Picture Immediately 4:20 p.m. Begin loading buses 4:30 p.m. Depart for Arlington National Cemetery 4:45 p.m. Arrive at Gate for Arlington National Cemetery 5:30 p.m. Observe Changing of the Guard 6:05 p.m. Depart for Iwo Jima Monument (light box supper served) 6:20 p.m. Arrive at Iwo Jima Monument, Group Picture and short program 7:10 p.m. Begin loading buses 7:25 p.m. Depart for Dulles Airport 8:00 p.m. Arrive at Dulles Airport 9:00 p.m. Depart Dulles to “Home Sweet Home” (light meal served) 10:30 p.m. Arrive at Fort Dodge Regional Airport (1 hour time zone change)

Another Honor Flight prepares for takeoff

World War II, Korea vets will travel to Washington


The next trip of theBrushy Creek AreaHonor Flight will

take Korean War veteransand some of their World WarII counterparts toWashington, D.C., Saturday.

Ron Newsum, the FortDodge man who leads thelocal Honor Flight board,said about 110 veterans willbe on the flight to see theKorean War VeteransMemorial, the World War IIMemorial and other attrac-tions in Washington.

The Brushy Creek AreaHonor Flight program tookmore than 500 World War IIveterans to Washington onfive previous flights in 2010and 2011.

Veterans who are select-ed to make the trip do nothave to pay for anything.

The flight will leave FortDodge Regional Airport atabout 7 a.m. Saturday andtravel to DullesInternational Airport in theVirginia suburbs ofWashington. There, the vet-erans and guardians willboard buses that will takethem to the monuments.They will also visitArlington NationalCemetery in Virginia to seethe changing of the guard atthe Tomb of the Unknowns.The final stop for the daywill be the Iwo JimaMemorial in Virginia.

The veterans will returnto Fort Dodge Saturdaynight.

Funding for the trip wassecured in March.

One of the large dona-tions to the effort camefrom CJ Bio America,which is building a plant inthe industrial park west ofFort Dodge called Iowa’sCrossroads of GlobalInnovation. The companycontributed $10,000.

Another $10,000 dona-tion came from theAMVETS, according toNewsum.

A second 2013 HonorFlight is scheduled for Sept.7.
