Taking Texas Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT) Through the Praxis™ Program

How to Register Registration for a Praxis™ test for the purpose of being admitted into an Educator Preparation Program in Texas must be done online through the Praxis website. Registration by mail is not available for PACT candidates. ► Go to www.ets.org/praxis and select Texas under “State Testing Requirements.” ► You will be taken to information regarding Texas Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT).

► Under “How to Register” on that page select the link to the Praxis online registration system. ► Either sign in to your existing Praxis account or create an account.

Select a Test ► Only certain Praxis tests can be taken to demonstrate content proficiency for possible

admission into a Texas Educator Preparation Program.

► Biology Content Knowledge (0235) ► Chemistry: Content Knowledge (0245) ► Education of Exceptional Students: Core Content Knowledge (0353) ► English Language, Literature & Composition: Content Knowledge (0041) ► General Science: Content Knowledge ((0435) ► Mathematics: Content Knowledge (0061) ► Middle School English Language Arts (0049) ► Middle School Mathematics (0069) ► Middle School Science (0439) ► Middle School Social Studies (0089)

► Enter the test code for the test you wish to take. Then hit “Search.”

► Select your test by checking the box next to your test name and click “Continue.”

► You will be shown your test name, test code, session number, reporting time, duration of the test and the test fee. If everything looks OK, click “Continue.”

Test Date and Center ► Select a test date and click “Continue.”

► Search for test centers in the location where you want to take the test by ZIP code or location.

► Select a test center from the list. ► Confirm your testing information by clicking “Continue.”

Attending Institution ► Enter your Attending Institution Name or Code or Search by Location. Score Recipients ► If you test in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii,

Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington or West Virginia, a copy of your scores will automatically be sent to that state’s teacher credentialing agency.

► You must add Code 8330 TX PRE-ADM CONTENT TSTS (PACT) as a score recipient so your scores will be reported to the state of Texas. If you do not do this, your scores will not be reported.

► Confirm your Score Recipients and then select “Continue.”

Background Information, Test Preparation

► As part of the registration process, you will be asked some optional questions about your background that may be used for research purposes.

► You will also be asked if you would like to purchase test preparation products. Reviewing Your Order and Payment ► At the end of the registration process, you will have the opportunity to review your

registration information for accuracy and make changes, if necessary. Your registration is not complete until you submit your payment.

Test Day Policies and Procedures

► Before the day of the test, you should read and be familiar with all policies and procedures in The Praxis Series™ Information Bulletin. The Bulletin can be downloaded from the Praxis website at www.ets.org/praxis.

► You must bring your admission ticket and acceptable identification documents with you to the test center. Details about acceptable identification documents are in the Bulletin and on the website. Note: Without the required identification documents, you will not be admitted to the test center and no refund will be approved.

Scores

► Passing scores are dependent upon the state where you test. ► Not all states calculate passing scores for all tests. If there is no indication of a passing status

on your score report, see “Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT) Passing Scores by State for Praxis Tests” on the Praxis website.

Score Reports ► Paper score reports are not sent to test takers. ► You can view your score report through your testing account on the Praxis website. ► Scores are reported approximately four weeks after the test date and are viewable for

30 days. Additional Information

► If you have been admitted to an Educator Preparation Program, contact your program for more information.

► If you have not been admitted to an Educator Preparation Program, contact the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) at 512 936-8400 or the Texas Education Agency (TEA) at 888 863-5880 (toll-free).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who can take Pre-Admission Content Tests (PACT)? A. You can take PACT if you hold a conferred bachelor’s degree or higher from

an accredited university. See a list of accredited colleges and universities at http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/.

Q. What is the benefit of taking PACT? A. You can take a content examination to demonstrate content proficiency for possible

entrance into an EPP in Texas. Taking PACT does not ensure that you will be admitted into a program. EPPs may have additional admission requirements.

Q. Who cannot take PACT? A. If you are already enrolled in an Educator Preparation Program, you cannot take PACT.

You must have a conferred bachelor’s degree to qualify. Q. If I am already certified, can I take PACT? A. No, if you are certified, you must register as a certified teacher. Q. What if TExES testing is not offered where I live? A. If you live outside the state of Texas, you can take PACT for the purpose of entering an

EPP in Texas. If the tests you wish to take are not offered through the TExES program, or you do not live in an area where TExES tests are offered, certain Praxis II® tests can be taken. For further information about taking PACT through the Praxis program, go to the Praxis website at www.ets.org/praxis and select Texas under “State Testing Requirements.”
