Transcript of Takeaway design thinking

Three Key Takeaways

1.  Empathy Map for the Stakeholder 2.  Multiple prototypes so the stakeholder

feels comfortable accepting and rejecting options

3.  Prototyping as if you are right, testing as if you are wrong

Graphical Representation of the Process

Experimenting with Design Thinking Skills/Mindsets in Context

•  Empathy Map for my Stakeholders •  Brainstorming 50 ideas •  Low fidelity prototyping as a conversation

starter •  Multiple prototypes •  Testing at early stages of projects •  Feedback Quad Chart

Application of Design Thinking to Problems in Field

Problems •  Many of the problems we face in research are open-

ended and high consequent. Design thinking allows for unconstrained brainstorming that could yield a number of candidate solutions to the problem. When faced with failure, there is a repository of other ideas to draw from.

Industry •  Parts of the design thinking process provides a good

model for iterating with a sponsor of funding –  Empathy map, Prototyping, Testing

•  Can be incorporated to an Agile development process
