Romanian NPL’s Market 2014

In 2014, Romania was the most active in CEE region, selling secured NPL’s, with projects of EUR 2 billion:

• Volksbank Romania - Project Phoenix EUR 495m

• MKB Romania - Project Gabriel EUR 109m

• Volksbank Austria - Project Danube - Romania EUR 126m

• BCR Erste Bank Romania - Project Orion EUR 363m

• BCR Erste Bank Romania - Project Saturn EUR 443m

• Bank of Cyprus Romania - Project Demeter EUR 545m

Banks Selling Secured NPL’s - Outlook 2015

• Banks in Romania are under National Bank of Romania pressure to clean the balance sheets and facilitate new lending.

• Foreign banks are required by governments, e.g. Greece, Austria, to repay loans and recapitalize.

• In 2015, BCR Erste Bank is tried to sell a significant NPL portfolio in Romania with a estimated gross book value (GBV) of €3.5 billion.

• Other commercial banks (e.g. Piraeus Bank Romania, Eurobank EFG Group, NBG) will plan to liquidate large volume of NPL’s in 2015 and 2016, offering a significant buying opportunity.
