project to replace the roof on the former Tacoma Municipal Barn (pictured), a 104-year-old struc-ture also known as the "City Shops and Stables Building."

According to a legal notice published last month in the Tacoma Daily Index, the City of Tacoma was accepting bids on a $430,000 proj-ect that would install a new roof, overhangs, and gutters for the sprawling, City-owned building that occupies a full city block near the corner of South Holgate Street and South 24th Street. The bid process began on Tues., May 13. An on-site pre-bid meeting with representatives from Bosnick Roo� ng, D & D Construction, McMains Roo� ng, BCRA, and the City of Tacoma was held on Tues., May 20, at 10 a.m. The bid deadline expired at 11 a.m., on Tues., June 3.

The contractors that submitted bids are D & D Construction (Puyallup, Wash.) — $418,800; Stetz Construction (Lakewood, Wash.) — $425,000; and Jones & Roberts Company (Olym-pia, Wash.) — $438,300.

The City Shops and Stables Building, which was designed by a City engineer who also worked on the construction of the Murray Morgan Bridge and the Puyallup River Bridge, is near Tacoma's Union-Depot / Warehouse Historic District. The building was nominated to Tacoma's Register of Historic Places earlier this year. Tacoma's Land-marks Preservation Commission reviewed the nomination in March. A public hearing on the nomination was held in April.

The building is one of three City-owned prop-erties within a three-block area currently for

Posted online Weds., June 4The � fth annual Walk Tacoma series contin-

ues this month with a walking tour highlighting Tacoma's public art.

The approximately 1.5-mile walk, sponsored by TrueBlue, will begin at 5:15 p.m. on Weds., June 18, at Fireman's Park, located at 801 A St., in downtown Tacoma. The walk will be led by Pa-ci� c Avenue Streetscape artist Elizabeth Conner. There is no need to pre-register for the event. The walking tour, which is scheduled to end at 6:30 p.m., will be followed by a social gathering of walkers at The Forum restaurant, located at 815 Paci� c Ave., in downtown Tacoma.

Walk Tacoma 2014 is an eight-event walking series held on � rst and third Wednesdays, from April through August. The fun, themed walks encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors by discover-ing the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma. The walks are scheduled at the lunch hour and just after work to encourage downtown employees to walk during their work-day, whether it is to and from work or at a lunch break.

Tacoma Public Schools proposes to replace Arlington Elementary School with a 550 student capacity school as part of the 2013 Capital Projects Bond Issue. Arlington is a pre-kinder- garten through 5th grade school. The existing facility is 38,051 square feet built in two phases, 1924 and 1953 and sits on a 5.9 acre site.

A walkthrough to view the school and site is scheduled for June 11, at 3:30 p.m. at Arlington Elemen- tary School, 3002 S. 72nd Street, Tacoma, WA 98409. Please do not make contact with the school out- side of the designated time.

Tacoma Public Schools requests that interested architectural firms submit their qualifications for this project. The architect(s) selected for this project will assist in the evaluation of proposed siting, develop an educational specification, and provide the required design and construction administra- tion services.
