On March 2012 Four Season Residence & Resort will be

officially moving to their new building

Their new hotel is a symbol of a new beginning after 50

years of success all around the world.

Toronto had always been their headquarters and their

location of humble origins.

Although it is not widely known, Four Seasons Company only

owns one hotel while all the rest are franchised throughout

the world.

Soon to be closed down to move into their new location,

Four Seasons Company would like to invite executives from

all around the world to attend their closing ceremony, cel-

ebrate their 50th anniversary, as well as their new building

that will be ready to move into.

The new building is highly Modern with most of its exterior

covered in glass while the old building contains the Art Deco

style. Hence my overall style is a clash of both Modern and

Art Deco.

Another recurring theme would be the literal use of the

Four Seasons “tree”. The tree would be featured in the most

prominent places including all the centerpieces (in it’s appro-

priate season), and also the central bar (with all four seasons).

There will be a circle white plexi glass bar in the center of

the venue. In the middle of the bar will be a tree with all four

seasons on it (much like the Four Seasons logo) and from the

central bar, the venue will be divided into 4 differnt sections,

each with their own season (for example, the winter section

contains all the winter tables with the sample table shown,

only in that section).

The framed mirrors on the walls represent the importance

and recognition of every employee and shareholders who

have come from around the world to attend the ceremony.

This is a sample table for the “winter” section of the venue.

The framed mirrors will be scattered throughout the walls of the

venue. It represents the importance and recognition of every employ-

ee and shareholders who have come from around the world to attend

the ceremony.

The center piece is the “Four Seasons” iconic tree. For the sample

tabletop, I chose to do the “winter” table in the “winter” section of the

venue (the venue is divided into four section from the middle bar).

The idea of a tree is “Art Deco” in style, however, my appoach in cre-

ating the tree is “Modern” (the Art Deco vs Modern clash theme).

The “Black Diamond” Swarovski crystals create “visual ground-

ing” (something dark to create contrast from all the white and silver

objects around), much like the black fabric menu.

The black diamond rhinestones also act as “frozen dew”.

12 13 The style will be a clash of Modern and Art

Deco to reflect the new Four Seasons, and the

old Four Seasons. In the setup of the room’s

layout, there will be a circle bar in the center

that would divide the venue into four. These

four sections represent the four seasons (Four

Seasons Residence & Resort). There will be

a giant tree in the middle of the bar that will

mimic the Four Seasons logo to contain all

four season in it.

Extending the use of the iconic tree into the

individual centerpieces of each table, there

will be a different seasonal tree depending on

the section of the venue the table is located

at. For example, a table located in the summer

section of the venue will contain a tree that

would represent the summer season.

Draping and lighting will be used considerably

to distinguish the different seasonal sections.

I have chosen a Demasks linen called Good

Shabbos for the linen. The linen is a satin

white with matted demask texture in it. The

place mats will be a modern silver and tex-

tured rectangle with modern white china

(with a silver band) on top. The menu will be

wrapped in a unique black glittered fabric with

specialty papers added to the cover page.

There are four choices (one for each season)

The event will be held in the Regency Ball-

room (of the current Four Seasons). Since the

closing ceremoney represents the last event

that will be held at the building, the Regency

Ballroom, as the most featured event space of

the building was the perfect venue.

It is not common to have large event spaces

such as the Regency Ballroom. Many of the

largest ballrooms in the Ritz-Carlton, Park

Hyatt and even the new Four Seasons may

only accommodate a maximum of 350 people.

With 425 guests expected at the closing cer-

emony, there will not be a better venue that

has the logistical and conceptual requirements

for the event to take place.

All dividers in the Regency Hall will be re-

moved and the walls will be covered with

silver framed mirrors. By using pin spot and up

lighting to emphasize on taller objects such as

the centerpiece trees, the rug floors will not

be noticeable. There are not many large hotel

banquet halls in Toronto, and the one that fits

the concept the most had to be the Four Sea-

sons Regency Hall. The room will be setup as

seen on the right, with the head table (in front

of the circle bar reserved for the most senior

board of directors, president and ceo of the

Four Seasons company.

for each of the four courses. Each item will be

garnished to visually relevant to the season.

The Art Deco style may be seen from

flourished frames to the chivari chairs and the

Modern style may be ssen from the chosen

fabric typefaces used and the tree.

The walls will be covered with silver framed

mirrors of all shapes and sizes. These mirrors

symbolizes the recognition of the executives

and directors of Four Season Residence & Re-

sort from all over the world (who are presently

in the event) that make up the past, present

and future of the company.

The china is kept consistent with the Mod-

ern and Art Deco theme. With a simple silver

band going through all the plates except for

the charger (which is fully silver), the china

is simple while still creating an impact (Plati-

num Band collection). The flatware also leans

toward the Modern style, with its clean simpli-

fied lines and Bauhaus flair. The glassware

however, ties in the Art Deco theme with the

use of crystal in the “Westmount Cut Crystal”

collection.

The tablecloth that was chosen is called

“Good Shabbos” which is a snow white linen

with a white satin demask pattern on it. The

pattern is Art Deco, and the demask echos the

“season” theme.

The Chivari chairs are Art Deco, however,

with the silver Chivari, the chair represents a

perfect clash between Modern and Art Deco.

Thus the Chivari are kept simple without add-

ing anything to it.

The walls are covered with different flourish

framed mirrors. Although Art Deco in form,

the silver again delivers the Modern style.

These mirrors symbolizes the recognition for

the executives and directors of Four Season

Residence & Resort from all over the world

(who are at the event) that make up the past,

present and future of the company.

The blue drapery are used to reflect the “win-

ter” section of the venue (the venue is divided

into four “seasonal” sections which includes

Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter).

The venue will be setup in a banquet style

with a circle bar in the center of the room. In

the center of the circle bar will be a large tree

with all four seasons on it (like the Four Sea-

sons logo). The large tree will act as a divider

of the room according to the four seasons on

the tree.

Lighting will also be used to divide up the

room according to their seasons. For the

winter section, that part of the room will be lit

with blue lights and with blue drapery for that

section of the wall.

The centrepiece features a tree con-

structed from flat wire and acrylic poles. The

whole centerpiece will also be decorated

with rhinestones and will be washed with LED

blue lights. The conceptual challenge for the

centre piece of the “winter” table maintaining

the modern style since the idea of a tree is Art

Deco. That challenge was handled with the

use of metal and glass-like acrylic poles. With

the use of lighting, the glamour of Art Deco is

evidently present. The height of the pole (be-

fore the leaves start flourishing) is exactly 22

inches ( just enough to preserve the sightlines).

Conceptually the use of the tree as both the

venue’s centrepiece as well as the tabletop

centrepiece echoes the Four Seasons brand.

Having different sections of the room a differ-

ent season with a different tree, the theme has

tremendous depth and conscious thought.

The menu features a handmade fabric cover

with watercolor borders and silver metallic

paper. With detailed font selection and type

treatment, the menu cover is both Modern

in it’s elegance and simplicity, as well as

Art Deco in it’s glamour. The interior of the

menu contains a four-course meal, with four

choices (seasonal themed) for each course.

The design of the interior is very Art Deco with

Modern san-serif and serif fonts.
