The trail in Clarion County follows the Toby Creek Valley toward Clarion. It crosses state game lands and Deer Creek where it connects with and shares a route with the Clarion Highlands Trail, Game Lands #45 Trail, Sandy Creek Trail and Allegheny River Trail. All in all, about 90 miles of the North Country Trail, the

MEET OUR TOWNS
New Bethlehem was incorporated in 1853. The downtown
area lies at the intersection of State Routes 66 and 28
with easy access to Interstate 80- Exit 64. The area is
approximately 60 miles from Pittsburgh. New Bethlehem is
a charming town on the banks of Redbank Creek and home
to the Redbank Valley Trail, which was the first trail in the
state to earn the honor of “Pennsylvania Trail of the Year”.
New Bethlehem is the southern gateway to the PA Wilds
and the Lumber Heritage Region. The town is proud host
of many popular annual events, including the Clarion County
Fair and the Peanut Butter Festival and is home to the J.M.
Smucker Company.
Fisher, Millcreek and Strattanville, The Clarion River
played such an important part in the history of this area.
The Native Americans called the river Tobecco. In later
years a surveying crew was camping on the banks of the
river. One of the surveyor stated the sounds of nature were
so clear and distinct and were like a clarion call. The term
appeared to take hold and in 1819 the state government
officially used “Clarion” as the name of the present day
Clarion River. The first public road built in Clarion County was
the Old State Road. The road was built by the government
to get military personnel and supplies from the eastern
part of Pennsylvania to Fort LeBouf during the French and
Indian War. To this day, parts of the road continue to exist
in Millcreek Twp. Fisher, PA. “Leaning Toward Fisher” and
“True Tales of the Clarion River” are two publications filled
with personal stories of the Clarion River and the lumbering
business dating back to the 1830’s.
East Brady located in Clarion County and is situated in
the bend in the Allegheny River, at a point opposite to what
was formerly known as “The Great Western”. The Bend
received its name from the famous scout Captain Samuel
Brady. The sides of the hills are covered with trees, shrubs,
and projecting rocks. These combined form one of nature’s
grandest display.
